Sikeston stores will stay open until 9 p.m. on Monday December 22 and Tuesday December 23, with the usual 9 p.m. close the preceding Saturday December 20. Santa Returns Monday Night Sikeston Plans Public Visit
Final plans announced for Santa Claus to return to Sikeston next Monday. He will arrive late afternoon and be met by Chief of Police Harold Wallace at the city limits. Santa enters Sikeston at 6 30 p m and will appear on a stage in American Legion Park downtown with a four foot height limit for talking and receiving a treat. Airline Service To St Louis Begins In Sikeston
Sikeston starts its first scheduled air line to St Louis with stops at Cape Girardeau and East St Louis using four place Cessna 170 planes. Central Airways officials in Cape say the service links Parks Airport to downtown St Louis, with radio taxi reservations included at no extra cost. Freight service is available and connections to six major airlines are possible at St Louis field. Flights operate with pilots holding at least ten years of experience.

Sikes ton Chamber of Commerce hears church value program
The Sikeston Chamber of Commerce December meeting at the Rustic Rock Inn featured a church appreciation program and new board appointment. Dr F L Sisson spoke on the value of churches to the community and on church influence in education. Rev Jesse Smith gave a ministers view on church value. Ten to eleven ministers attended. President Kenneth Layton announced Tom Baker’s resignation from the board and Folmer Larsen’s appointment to fill the unexpired term. The board plans a membership ballot to fill three upcoming vacancies with six holdovers for 1953 54. The office closes December 24 to January 2 and the January meeting will be January 22 with the Corn Club Banquet.

Baker of the 1st Cavalry Division in Japan has earned the Good Conduct Medal along with the European Theater American Campaign Medal World War II Victory Medal UN Service Medal and Korean Service Ribbon. He enlisted in 1943 and served over 18 months. His brother Thurman Baker lives in East Prairie Missouri and serves in Korea with the 4st Cavalry Division. Sikeston high school auditorium hosted the Community Singing Festival as part of Church Appreciation Week.
