Funeral today for Sikeston photographer Harris Bach
Funeral services for Harris Alfred Bach 61 were held at Sikeston Methodist Church officiated by Dr. E H Crear of Poplar Bluff. Interment followed at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett. Bach, a Sikeston resident for 14 years, was a noted local photographer and member of Veterans of Foreign Wars American Legion choir Masonic Lodge and Sikeston Methodist Church. He died after a paralytic stroke and years of illness, survived by wife Beatrice and son Alfred Anderson Bach, with several siblings and numerous out of town relatives attending.

Local Sailor Reported Missing After Ship Sinking
William Edward Hughes of Sikeston is reported missing after the sinking of the U S S Indianapolis early last week. A Navy telegram was received Sunday. Hughes, a seaman second class in the Navy for three years, is believed missing as Red Cross efforts seek information. About 350 men escaped from the Indianapolis while most were killed. Hughes is survived by his wife Addie and his parents Mr. and Mrs. J R Hughes, plus several siblings.

Enrollment for the fall term at Sikeston high school will begin Tuesday, August 28, and run through Thursday, with seniors Tuesday morning and freshmen Thursday morning.
