He urged backing the state winter meeting bid and attendance at the Hannibal fall gathering. Harold Vogel announced the football stadium field is sod seeded and progressing, with bids for stands and walls forthcoming.
Time neai month and the club still hopes to have the field sta dum ready for the Bulldogs'37 grid season.
Parma reports a brief ceremony led by W. A. Merick of Bernie installing Parma Lions Club officers. Guy Cram becomes president with Bob Jones as 1st vice president and A E Dauley as 2nd vice president. J O Niswonger is 3rd vice president and R R Clemmons serves as secretary treasurer. Directors for one year are J R Lucy and Elmer Gratz. for two years Martin Bong Durante and Woodrow Hon.
West Plains Mo. voters approved a plan to match eighteen thousand five hundred dollars in federal funds to build a municipal airport by a tally of two hundred thirty seven to one hundred four.
Over a weekend, 12 traffic accidents in a 14 county area reported by Troop E of the State Highway Patrol produced one fatality and 16 injuries. Incidents included a head on crash near Kelso involving Sheriff John Dennis, a wrong side collision near Fredericktown killing Melvin Tidwell, and a crossing collision near Sikeston. Arrests were made for drunken driving in the Kelso incident and two accompanying passengers were detained.
Mrs. Susan Elizabeth McDougal aged 82 died in Poplar Bluff Friday. Born December 18, 1874, she was wife of J. W. McDougal and mother of Lee and Prince McDougal Sikeston O G McDougal Mrs G L Jeffress and Mrs P R De Laney of Poplar Bluff. She leaves five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A long time Baptist and Eastern Star member.
The Southeast Missoun quarter r meeting of the Pep Association 31 Odd Fellows and Rebekahs was held in Morehouse high school gym with about 175 attendees from various lodges. Sikeston Rebekahs Clara Ralph Velma Sizemore Dolly Kirby and Mara Bruce performed a skit, Morehouse provided three other skits and musical numbers. Anna Lou Lacy sang a solo, R S Lutes played guitar with comedy songs, and Mrs Anna Boardman of Sikeston played piano. Refreshments by Cora Kasting Freeda Wyrick and Mary Towel included sandwiches chips cupcakes and sodas.
Gray Ridge Public Schools open Monday August 12 with enrollment from nine to twelve o'clock for both elementary and high school students. Buses run on last year’s schedule and lunches cost 20 cents. The announcement lists administrators teachers and cafeteria staff for high and elementary schools plus the Colored and Charteroak units. State Senator J F Patterson will be the banquet speaker for the Missouri Soil Conservation District supervisors meeting in Columbia August 13 with about 150 board members and their spouses expected over three days.
Martin H. Lane 69, Brownwood, a patient at Poplar Bluff Veterans Administration Hospital, left without permission Tuesday and was found fatally injured beside a highway near Advance, Missouri. Coroner Grover Greer said internal injuries and severe facial lacerations likely from being struck by a car. Lane died after being brought back to the hospital.
Mrs Sybil Faye Leirer wife of Otto Leirer of the Bement community died Friday evening at Missouri Delta Community Hospital from a paralytic stroke after months of ill health She had lived in the Bement area only a few months previously residing in Rector Ark East St Louis and Jackson She was born January 26 1905 in Greenway Ark to Jesse W and Nora Jones and was a longtime Baptist Church member Funeral services were held at the Bement Baptist Church Survivors include her husband three sons two daughters three stepsons a brother and a sister and 16 grandchildren
Three people were injured Tuesday around 2 45 pm on Highway 61 near Kewanee Junction when a northbound milk truck driven by Ella Mae Crumb 44 of New Madrid was struck in the rear by a car driven by James R Jones 26 of New Madrid Jones was arrested and charged with careless and reckless driving He was admitted to Mississippi Delta Community Hospital for treatment and is in satisfactory condition Crumb was treated and dismissed Joe Ross 43 of New Madrid was treated and dismissed Pamela Bagby 11 of Sikeston cut her knee in a fall and was dismissed after treatment
Scott County plans to furnish surplus food to about 1,000 families, or 4,000 to 5,000 people, under Phil Waldman county clerk who was designated by the County Court with State Welfare approval. Distribution is set for mid August at Benton high school gym for bona fide Scott County residents, with civic groups invited to help. Eligibility requires county residency, verification, income limits, and limits on earned work. Applications available through the County Welfare Department or Waldman’s Benton office. all must be approved before food is issued.

Nominees, voting places, and petition or write in options listed. polls open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Commerce, Kelso, Moreland, Morley, Richland, Sylvania, Txynapoitry and Diehlstadt facilities.
Herman H. Seiler 72 died Thursday afternoon at his farm home south of Kelso Illinois. Born March 3 1885 near Leopold he married Mary Snider at Leopold June 6 1916. They moved to Scott County 39 years ago and lived at Oran Morley before settling on the present farm. Survived by wife four sons Harre St Louis William Fort Monmouth X J Abbert Sikeston Herbert Commerce three daughters Mrs Cline Kiefer St Louis Alma Seiler at home Mrs Raymond Bollinger Benton 18 grandchildren two great grandchildren and a sister Mrs Hannah Trankle St Louis.
Wendy Vanna MecNew infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan McNew Jr. of Morehouse died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at Delta Community Hospital where born 5 p.m. Monday. Burial was Tuesday afternoon at Albritton Funeral Home with Rev. W Hoffert. Survived by parents. paternal grandparents Ivan McNew Sr. of Morehouse. maternal grandparents Pete Rogers of Sikeston. great grandmother Alice Husher of Sikeston.
J R James Sr a retired farmer from Sikeston died Saturday after slumping on his porch at 725 Smith Avenue while en route to Delta Community Hospital. He was born June 30, 1878 in Bollinger County. Survived by a large family including his wife Blanche Miller, seven sons, four daughters, and several stepchildren. Funeral at Church of Christ with burial at Nunnallee Memorial Park.
Walter Norval Syre a Bertrand resident died Saturday morning of a heart attack while being transported to Della Community Hospital in Sixeston. Funeral services were held Monday at Bertrand Methodist Church with Rev. Ronald Bollinger and Rev. Lawrence Hecktert. interment at Oak Grove Cemetery by Nunnetee Funeral Home. Born November 2, 1883 he served in World War I and worked as a farmer before becoming a salesman for John Gary Mercantle Company in Bertrand.
