Sikeston's Largest Building Completed In 1918
Thirty years ago Sikeston marked a milestone as the Farmers Supply Company’s farm implement store grew into the Lair Furniture Company in a three story, BO by 120 foot building. Architect A F Lindsay led the new construction while Chaney and Jefferson Hotel remodels and an Odd Fellows addition followed. Scott County exceeded its Liberty bond quota.

Sikeston News Highlights 1923 Developments and Plans
Twenty five years ago in Sikeston the shoe factory development progressed with machinery arriving and factory plans under Chamber of Commerce study. Dr. W E Derris bought a Front Street site for a new drug store. Lot drawings for the Chamber addition were held this week. L T Davey opened a plumbing business in Sikeston. A gasoline station explosion at West Plains disrupted a local dance above the filling station. Farmers planned 145 acres for vegetables including cucumbers tomatoes sweet corn cabbage and beans. Tanner C Dye, ex State Grain Department inspector, took over Dye Service Station at Malone and Kingshighway. Anita Winchester and Dr John Stokes of Mayfield KY announced their approaching marriage.

Forty Youths Die In Mass Tragedy On April Nineteenth
April 19, 1928 saw a devastating incident claiming the lives of forty young people. Authorities reported the casualties as a sudden, catastrophic loss affecting families and communities. Investigations were launched to determine causes and prevent a recurrence.
Sikeston Pioneers J W Schroff Dies or Sherman Resident Cr Freeman
Fifteen years ago on April 20 1933 Sikeston mourned the death of J W Schroff a 72 year old pioneer after a long illness in a St Louis hospital. Cr Freeman a former Sikeston resident died at Sherman Texas and his body was brought here for burial. Forty four Sikeston citizens pledged to employ building workers for repair projects through a community movement fostered by The Herald.

Sikeston Council Grants Cable Conduit Rights and Local News
The Sikeston city council authorized Southeast Missouri Telephone Company to place cables in underground conduits. Farmers chafed at Federal corn and cotton allotments, while Sikeston’s new golf course east of town neared completion. Albert Daniels became deputy circuit clerk at Benton, and A. M. Jackson was elected director of the Southeast Missouri Retail Lumber Dealers Association in Poplar Bluff.

Priest Marked 50 Years In Parish Service At Oran
Rev Michael M Helmacher celebrated his 50th year as priest and 46th year as pastor of Guardian Angels Catholic church at Oran. It marked the church's 50th anniversary. Roy Hairkindall, 17, of Imo, died after a fall from a fire truck. Plans surfaced for a May tin can drive. New ration books will be issued to more than 120 million people in June.

Sikeston Clubs Elect New Leaders and Honor Veteran
In April 1948 Mrs. E J Nienstedt became Woman's Club president and Joe Borgers was elected Sikeston Junior Chamber of Commerce president. C C Pinnell received a 50 year Masonic pin for half a century of service. Thirty Baptism rites followed special church meetings. Sikeston hosted the Memphis Cotton Carnival Queen and her committee.
