Car and freight train collide at Malone Avenue intersection
A Monday 1:30 am collision at Malone Avenue tied up lines as six Frisco freight cars derailed and an auto was crushed. Marvin Riggs 20 of Lilbourn suffered a fractured arm, James Griffith 25 unhurt. Marine Private Richard Oliver Pyle, son of Mr and Mrs Richard Pyle of Route 3 Sikeston, has graduated from Mortar Gunnery School at Camp Elliott San Diego Calif with high expert rating. Navy officer applicants sought in Sikeston
Lieut J W McCollough of the St Louis Office of Naval Officer Procurement will visit Sikeston on Friday April 28 to interview local residents for commissions in the U S Naval Reserve. No college degree required for many, two years of college plus business success can qualify. All engineers including radio electrical mechanical chemical metallurgical and petroleum may qualify up to age 45, as well as doctors dentists and clergymen. Butler County Man Sentenced for Theft
William T. Morris former Public Administrator of Butler County received an 18 month prison term from Federal Judge Rubey M. Hulen after a no contest plea on an embezzlement charge. He was accused of stealing 2230 dollars from the estate of John Dollford Crank, a World War I veteran for whom he was guardian and curator from February 1, 1925, to July 21, 1942.

In the past month Sikeston shipped about 47,000 pounds of waste paper for the war effort. A carload of 32,000 to 35,000 pounds was collected this month.
