Earliest American footprint found on Blue Mountain

A May 13 1882 report notes Mr Jolin B Wiggins of Waverly found a fossil footprint in metamorphic limestone on Blue Mountain Perry County Pennsylvania. The cast measures 74 inches long 34 inches wide at the ball and 3 inches deep with five toes. The discovery raises questions about the identity of the maker and the era of the footprint.

Mining activity and incidents near Black Range in Chloride Range

Ore shipments to the Silver Monument plant proceed as miners move camps to Watson's Gulch and Fairview claims. Daviagon and Thompson relocate gear to work on the Fairview mine owned by Jon Rogers near Millbrae. A skunk incident at the postmaster’s office prompts a fatal shot, while Roadjuster work reveals high grade ore. Dr Blinn and Jobo Fullert secure a bond on Jud and Monument creek property. Moses Blinn and Pollerton relocate to Monument creek to start operations. Lew Krewn holds half interest in the claim.

Wanted mining men and engineers in old Arizona ads

A string of help wanted notices seeks a range of mining staff from assaymen and engineers to a mining superintendent. Applicants show experience at mills or milling and assaying, with references, to be addressed to offices in El Paso, Denver, Chicago, or Denver, Colorado. The piece also notes Sulton Lake’s desert mirage as trains pass near Volcano Springs, describing a miles long lake three miles from the tracks, shallow and blamed on silt.
