Silas Alexander long time New Mexico lawyer and former secretary to the territory died at his home at 9:80 yesterday evening after a period of ill health. Born in Pennsylvania he practiced law since 1882 and served Gov. Otero's first term. He leaves a wife and five children. Funeral at Union aboard at 4 this afternoon with Masons escort to the cemetery. Community mourns a good citizen and devoted husband and father.
About ten thousand dollars is tied up for horse races at Albuquerque for the territorial fair. Cracking travelers from all parts of the west are flocking in. A feature will be made of running races this year.
A Sierra County New Mexico Democratic Convention is called to meet in Hillsboro at 10 a m on Saturday October 6 1906 to nominate county ticket and conduct business. Precincts receive representation with listed delegates and primaries set for September 29 1906. Proxies require precinct residency and the county central committee chair and secretary will certify delegates. Taos Murray chairman.
New Mexico events celebrate a quarter century with purse prizes totaling 10000 for horse racing 1500 for baseball 1000 for fruit and vegetable exhibits along with free street carnivals flower parade poultry show cowboy races and various attractions in a community celebration.
