Acetylene Method Hails Ship Refloating Breakthrough

An expert crew tested acetylene gas on a sunken boat in the River Solne and raised it with small balloons inflated beneath the hull using acetylene from calcium carbide. Inventor M Ducaste foresees applying the device to ships to prevent foundering in collisions.

First Bale of Cotton On Display In Lakewood

A curious wagon display drew a crowd as the first bale of cotton in Lakewood was shown on the streets one day this week. Grower W. M. Raper produced the bale from Dr. Culpepper's farm near Dayton and had it brought from a gin at Carlsbad, photographed amid the gathering.
