Claney as Attorney General Andrew B. Stroup as Superintendent of Public Instruction Robert P. Ervine as Commissioner of Public Lands and other county and district officials in the Las Vegas convention.
An expert crew tested acetylene gas on a sunken boat in the River Solne and raised it with small balloons inflated beneath the hull using acetylene from calcium carbide. Inventor M Ducaste foresees applying the device to ships to prevent foundering in collisions.
In Las Vegas New Mexico Progressives announce a mass meeting led by H Hanna and George W Price with Santa Fe citizens to form a statewide Progressive Republican League. They claim a single donor can fund convencers to organize precincts and a state convention is planned around the Democratic nominating day.
A curious wagon display drew a crowd as the first bale of cotton in Lakewood was shown on the streets one day this week. Grower W. M. Raper produced the bale from Dr. Culpepper's farm near Dayton and had it brought from a gin at Carlsbad, photographed amid the gathering.
