Hillsboro locals report visits from Fairview residents and ranch sales as Disinger ranch changes hands. Notices include mining claim sales, a farmers talk at the court house, and court moves in the Beltram murder case. A local tennis match, dry election results, and sheriff transport of Beltram conclude the week.
Kingston residents approved a dry vote on the 6th by a 14 to 4 margin. Mrs. Daley departed for the east while goats are being shorn. Empire Zinc official Mr. Kingland left recently for several months abroad. Dick Gill returns to Kingston after 13 years away. Rumors circulate of nearby mines possibly being taken over by St Louis interests with impending development. A dance is planned at Monarch Hall on the 10th and all are invited.
Sierra County Chapter of the American Red Cross in Hillsboro urges salvaging one half pound tip boxes for fruit cake shipments to local servicemen. Regulations limit treats to fruit cake and milk chocolate only. The notice cites catarrh as a local ailment requiring constitutional treatment and promotes Hall's Catarrh Medicine as a remedy.
Sierra County New Mexico chapter of the American Red Cross plans Christmas packets for local men who joined the army. About 100 dollars is needed to fund the effort and the chapter asks residents to contribute to cheer the soldiers through Christmas and the New Year.
State Engineer's Office announces James A. French engineer notes that Edward Crouch of Caballo Sierra County filed July 24 1917 for a water appropriation permit from Las Animas Creek to irrigate twenty acres and domestic uses. Objections due by October 22 1917 with protest procedures outlined. First publication August 17 1917.
