The Elephant Butte Dam construction begins this week
The New Mexican reports the Eleph ant Butte dam work has started with a twenty man crew excavating the eastern abutment. A surveying party of sixteen maps final locations for the dam spillway and the diversion tunnel, which will carry the full Rio Grande flow during construction and later serve as a reservoir outlet.
