The Albany Journal reports that Fall will not participate in the senatorial contest, declaring his aim is only to support legislation in which the Republican Party is pledged, and his stance is described as hands off.
Santa Fe June 4 The House passed a county salary bill combining senate and house versions. Senate Bill 106 was committed 33 to 11 amid debate. The Baca salary bill was amended to lower overall county salaries by about 75 000 to 100 000 yearly across 26 counties. Aimed at school salaries, amendments for county superintendents were tabled as the bill passed 41 to 6 before a 2 PM recess.
A refugee, Willie Hunt, reports that 600 Mexican troops were massacred in Juchitan by Juchiteca Indians a month ago. Women aided in the slaughter as troops entered through a narrow pass amid cannon fire and a regimental band.
An official census shows mass emigration from Chiluahua as fears of a federal attack depopulate the town. Only 35 men and 12 women of 1,000 Americans remain. 30,000 residents in peace, over 20,000 still present with daily exodus. In Santa Fe, a tense session adjourned with no election after a cut order, while the House debated county office corruption and investigated treasurers accused of stealing four hundred thousand dollars.
Joseph Grafenried drilling a well near Yeso in Chavez county reached water at 68 feet and discovered a prehistoric Indian village with numerous relics.
A Sheriff sale notice announces the sale of the Elephant Butte Hotel property at Engle Sierra County New Mexico to satisfy a civil judgment in district court. The listing includes the hotel site two town lots the McLendon barn livery and corrals and related improvements plus household furnishings and interior items as described in the writ dated May 1 1912. The auction will be held at the courthouse door in Hillsboro Hillsboro N M for cash to the highest bidder.
Notice from the Department of State Engineer Santa Fe dated April 17 1912 stating that on April 5 1912 John T McElroy and W H Austin of El Paso Texas applied to the State Engineer of New Mexico for a permit to appropriate public waters of the state under the Irrigation Law of 1907 Section 26. The description ends mid sentence.
State Engineer receives application for diversion works to irrigate about 8000 acres. Project plans include canals diversions and 80 cubic feet per second flow. Comment period closes the 16th. objections may be filed with affidavits.
