Dynamite Blast Fails At Bethlehem Quarry West Shore Line
A large blast at the South Bethlehem limestone quarry owned by Peter Callanan failed to dislodge 60,000 tons of rock after using 5,000 pounds of dynamite placed in 188 holes. Edison officials and others then rigged fuses, but the cliff 90 feet high did not break as planned. Rock flew into the air while workers reassessed the setup.
