Elizabeth Outhet known as Aunt Betty, born October 29, 1831 in Oswego New York, is proclaimed by friends as Chicago’s oldest settler. She came to Chicago in 1842 and later lived in Oak Park after the 1871 fire, where she ran a dry goods store for 25 years and recently marked her eightieth birthday.
Sir Thomas Crosby, new lord mayor of London, is 81 and likely the oldest to hold the post. A physician by training, he was educated at University College and St Thomas' Hospital, joined the city’s common council in 1877, became alderman in 1898, sheriff in 1906-07, and remains a long-time city practitioner. His daughter will act as lady mayoress.
Milton J. Helmick attorney who defended Mrs Mabel Biine says Bliss was discharged at the preliminary examination in Bocorro New Mexico and the grand jury likely will not reopen the case. Bliss to Pueblo with Elisa and children while Wells returns to Socorro Taure and El Pano for the kids. Helmick says Socorro residents have shown sympathy as Bliss travels toward Denver for Christmas on her own recognizance.
A Pecos dispatch reports Tom Tucker county commissioner shot and killed on his ranch twelve miles north of Pecos. The assailant, Jack Hiles, surrendered to the sheriff and awaits inquest. The Santa Fe New Mexican misidentifies Tucker as James H. Tucker from Hillsboro, a relation noted as mistaken.
