The traveling auditor reported Sheriff Chavez of Lincoln County for alleged misdoing. A grand jury and court found him guilty on official duties failures and jail and books mismanagement, discharging him from office. It marked a historic county officer removal in New Mexico amid party contrasts.

One Third Day Prohibition Reach Expands in New Mexico

The Santa Fe Eagle reports New Mexico nearing one third prohibition territory. It notes San Juan county and much of the lower Pecos valley, excluding Roswell, Glorieta and Las Cruces areas, plus many counties and reservations totaling about 35,000 square miles, with 85,000 more projected by year end.
