Summer Basketball To Begin Meet Tonight
Plans for a summer basketball program will be made at a meeting tonight at 7 p.m. behind Central School. Sponsored by the City Recreation Association, the program is open to any boy 14 or older, and interested boys are urged to attend.

Merlin Boerner Awarded Insurance Fellowship
Merlin Boerner a social Studies teacher at Sibley Community School traveled to Des Moines for a two week Drake University workshop on the role of insurance in modern life. He earned a scholarship from the Farmers Mutual Insurance Association of Osceola County. Four Osceola County women competed for Osceola County Dairy Princess during the centennial celebration: Deborah Kruger Cynthia Rector Kathy Schoo and Joan Earls. Judges included Bob Cashel Kenneth McCombs and Daniel McPherson. The winner will ride in the county parade and compete in the state dairy princess contest later this year. Joan Earls, 18, from Bigelow Minn is the 1972 Iowa Dairy Princess candidate with a 5'8" height and 135 pounds and is a 1972 Sibley High School graduate planning to attend Bethel.

Centen nial parade to feature 180 units and pageant
More than 180 units will take part in the centennial parade Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. start at 8th Street and 8th Avenue, moving south to 9th Street and west to the fairgrounds. Spectators may view from the grandstand as the parade passes. The day also offers cattle shows, 4-H and FFA judging, a noon luncheon hosted by local clubs, a BPW tea for the Centennial Queen and Court, a second Silver Coins Auction at 7:30 p.m., and beard and dress judging at 8:15 p.m. Prizes cover beard style and mustache, with musical and entertainment highlights throughout.

Hartley Man Seeks State Rep Seat in Third District
Ingwer L. Hansen of Hartley, 59, Republican, filed nomination papers for Iowa General Assembly from the Third District. A WWII veteran and longtime Hartley leader, he retired from the USPS in May 1970 to devote full time to duties. He and his wife Patricia have three children and own their Hartley home. Hansen has held multiple local posts, including Hartley Chamber of Commerce secretary since 1940, and led efforts for Community Memorial Hospital.
