Last Friday four oclock the car of Fred Gehrig struck by a freight train near the Golden Rule store, killing Gottlieb Gehrig and injuring Fred. Coroner's jury found no blame assigned, but urged safer crossing arrangements and noted delays by trains and pedestrians at the two crossings in the city.

Obituary of Gottlieb Gehrig of Shoshone Idaho
Gottlieb Gehrig born May 9 1868 in Berne Switzerland died September 14 1917 in Shoshone Idaho from a street crossing collision with a railroad train. He came to the United States in 1889 settling in Spencer Iowa then Idaho’s Lincoln County on a farm north of Shoshone. He married Margaret Durfee in April 1897 and they had six sons and one brother Gottfried Gehrig survives. Funeral conducted at Shoshone Baptist church by a Carey Latter Day Saints member. he was a respected early settler with many friends.
