Fred Gooding appointed to head local effort. The note calls for money, material, and food to support the war. Emphasizes drafts, enlistment, and the necessity of public backing to fund and supply troops. Encourages immediate action to back the boys with dollars.
Dietrich hosts a large community fair with a school backing, featuring a wide display of garden produce and prize-winning entries. Youth projects include beet, potato, cabbage, tomato, and pumpkin contests. with judges awarding scholarships and cups for top exhibits. Local attendees, including Neal McCole's family and several residents, praised the effort and encouraged future farming spirit.
W W Deal state grange worthy master visited the Wood River Center Grange and spoke on farming and current grange activities. Miss Cook bought forty acres joining her ranch. land purchased from Mrs Victor Johnson. Mrs Warren Peck operated on for cancer in Showhune hospital and recovering. Two local boys Joe Incas and Clarence Elliott left for the North Shoshone auxiliary service. The Shoshone Red Cross auxiliary held its first meeting for active service on Oct 10 with new members. The Wood River Center Grange loaned their hall for sewing for soldiers one day weekly. Miss Hattie Peck home from Shoshone school due to her mother's illness. Eva Hvans visited her father. Eva attends Shoshone school this winter. The local grange accepted Russell Loversance invitation to meet on Saturday Got 12. about twenty members to attend from Wood River. Mr and Mrs H V Cannon hosted card and bunco Friday night in honor of Mr and Mrs Manuel Mello before their California departure. Chas Cleveland and son Lyle were in Gooding on business. smell of insoline noted. Mrs Joe King and children visited Arthur Scotts on Sunday. T L Bahn jime to Shoshone Monday. Mr and Mrs David Mitchell, Mr and Mrs H V Casinon, and Miss Elza Lave fished the Richfield canal Monday, catching 100 fish.
A message from Our Boys at American Lake dated October 7 1917 thanks the peace loving people of Lincoln County and Shoshone Idaho for entertainments and gifts given to twenty six drafted men who left on the third. B W Crandall in charge echoes the large Shoshone demonstration and promises proper recognition at the front. Also notes Liberty Loan publicity by G K Weeks as general campaign manager regarding tax exemptions on new four percent bonds and other bonds and urges newspapers to spread the news.
