Great sale drives desert from Snake River land at Jerome

In Jerome Idaho October 3 1907 a three day land sale transformed 150000 acres of sage brush into a growing town with electric lines and lights. Two corner lots sold for 5000 and 4100 while about 92000 more in town lots were sold, bringing total week sales to around 150000. The North Side Irrigation and Shoshone Falls projects backed by Kuhn brothers attracted buyers as D C McWatters Major Reed Bob McCollum and G D Aiken led the development. Chas Wernicke of Shoshone bought a lot and watched an arc light illuminate his corner as Jerome emerged from the desert.
