U S Land Office officials across multiple western states were instructed by the General Land Office to announce that leasing segregated lands under the 1902 Reclamation Act to liquor operators will be grounds for canceling entries. Enforcement includes ejectment or injunctions to prevent such use, amid deteriorating conditions in Nevada where government works employ thousands. The move aims to curb theft and violence associated with liquor operations on government lands. In related notes, The Statesman reports that from January 1 to March 20 the Oregon Short Line carried an estimated 1500 to 1800 new Idaho-bound travelers, with colonist ticket sales from eastern points to Idaho, Oregon, and Washington starting March 1 and continuing to May 15.
