Idaho Leader Presses Livestock Shipping Law Change
Hon. Fred W. Gooding of Sho Shone Idaho seeks federal action to extend stock unloading and feeding to every thirty six hours, replacing the current twenty eight hour rule. The proposal, backed by Senator Heyburn and Congressman French, argues longer transport times and improved methods justify less frequent stoppages. Congress is seen moving quickly, with key bills advancing and election-year pressure likely to shorten the session. The Heyburn pure food bill passes the Senate 64 to 0 after heavy debate, aiming to curb adulterated foods and empower federal inspectors. Also noted is midshipman Robert L. Ghormley of Moscow Idaho, graduating from the Naval Academy and heading to the West Virginia in Cuban waters.
