Former senator Townley testified in Washington on May 3 before the Senate Military Affairs Committee. He described industrial democracy as an arrangement delivering raw materials and goods to consumers without profiteering. The hearing also explored cowhide and harness production, livestock and leather trade, and the broader question of producer and consumer relations amid wartime tensions and propaganda from Idaho activists.

A Voice From the Farm by James Whitcomb Riley

The poem depicts freedom as a living force against oppression, contrasting rustic charm with tyranny. It honors early American ideals and laments chains as it calls for the enduring spirit of liberty through vivid, battle like imagery. The piece references Freedom personified and historical writers like William Cullen Bryant as inspirations and echoes a plea for emancipation and moral progress.
