Shooting Affray Outside Pool Hall Spurs Local Trial

A shooting affray outside Walter’s billiard hall involved Will Conners and his brother Jack plus Darby O’Brien. Lester Barnhardt fired two shots at Wil Conners, missing him. a bullet pierced the hall wall and struck Rev J W Pandy across the river but did not injure him. Earnhardt is jailed awaiting testimony as Will Conners faces a future court date before Justice of the Peace Bert Bowler after a bid for venue changes and witness issues. Prosecution and defense argued amid motives tied to a mining stock dispute involving a sister of one Conners brother. Conners posted ball bonds by Dr. W H Baugh.

Mail Order Ads Hit Gooding in Big Business Push

Minister Leaving Shoshone for Altoona Kansas

Rev J B McLeod of the Methodist Church at Shoshone will move his family to Altoona Kansas to be near relatives. He will preach a farewell March 22 after three years on the charge. Rev B H Lewis of Altoona will succeed him, arriving April 1 with his wife and two children.

Son rescues father from pauper burial at Jamies Marriott

Henry Marriott, a decorator and painter from Richfield, died of dropsy at the county farm aged about 55. His son, working in Montana in railroad service, arrived after probate Judge Jones approved the claim and arranged for a religious service by the Methodist pastor. The body had been prepared for burial and a grave dug before the son intervened to switch to a proper burial in a neat casket.

Fire Destroys Journal Office Then Frozen Aftermath

A four year old blaze devastated the Journal office when a broken flue ignited the upper building. The seven oclock morning fire was fought with vigor as firefighters battled the flames, some hands frozen to gear. Ice coated interiors after extinguishment, and sunlit frost transformed the wreckage. The zero temperature matched conditions from a prior incident a year earlier.
