Sam Harding’s Trophy on the Ossipos frontier camp tale
In the cabin of pioneer Sam Harding near Dover Point a trophy bears witness to a bear hunt. Harding recalls how he tracked a bear through a narrow valley, killed it with one shot, and defended his meat against a rival redskin who attacked over the bear. He hung the scalp as a lasting keepsake of the hunt and its peril.
