Explosion in Carbon Hill coal mine shocks Carbonado
In Carbonado Washington on December 9 a subterranean explosion at the Carbon Hill coal company mine injured and trapped a large shift. About 70 to 80 men worked in tunnel No 7 under foreman J H Dut and rescue efforts recovered sixteen mangled bodies so far. Superintendent D T Davis and foreman Jonah Davis remain at the scene with relief crews as details trickle in.

Opening of St Anthony branch line celebrated with governor visit
St Anthony Idaho December 7 celebration marked the opening of the St Anthony branch line. Governor Steunenberg General Superintendent Calvin and Short Line officials led a special train to a half mile from town. A large gathering heard speeches by Governor Steunenberg P Averett John Donaldson and F L Williams. The 51 mile line runs from Idaho Falls through a rapidly settling agricultural area.
