D W Davis declares candidacy for Idaho governor and outlines policy aims. He highlights eliminating middlemen profits between producer and consumer, using state resources to aid farmers, and applying business methods to state finances. Davis pledges war support, postwar measures, and reforms for labor, governance, and the farm sector.
The Salvation Army begins a war funds drive authorized by the State Council of Defense. Under Hon. C. F. Borden, north Lincoln County leaders include F. Borden as section chair, M. R. Kays at Richfeld, and Bertha Patterson directing at Dietrich with a quota of 650 dollars. Workers listed: Florence Butler, Lillie Springer, Mrs Harmison Ryan, Mrs Bert Calhoun, and Mrs Gottfried Gehrig.
A August 19 letter from Washington states twenty five women motor drivers are needed from this division within six months. They will serve mainly in Paris and interior points performing motor messenger, ambulance, and limited camion service. Transportation paid by Red Cross. Volunteers preferred. if needed, allowances of 450 francs monthly outside Paris and 600 francs monthly in Paris. Selection from American Red Cross Motor Corps, with testing opportunities by division 14 Motor Corps directors.
Edward A. Van Sicklin of Weiser, Democratic candidate for governor, toured Lewiston and prepared to reach Moscow and northern counties. He avoided public speeches, preferring to renew acquaintances and discuss highway policy, earning hearty support while noting voters’ war duties limit attention to campaigning.
Dietrich residents prepare for extensive irrigation work by the Idaho Irrigation Company on the main canal and laterals, with concrete work underway. A separate note reports a serious car accident near Shoshone injuring Gant and Mrs. John Matson but not dangerously. The bulletin also lists job qualifications for Red Cross ambulance and motor ambulance drivers and notes community events and local business developments in Dietrich.
In Idaho every voter must register before voting. The primary is September 3 with August 31 as the last day to register. If not registered by August 31 you cannot vote on September 3. Registrars listed: W Hail Horne for Shoshone, S S King for Dietrich, Alvin Butler for North Shoshone.
The Executive Committee of the Fred Cross meets at the Library in regular session. Secretary reports financials with balance on hand $4784.74. Lundin resigns as chairman of the Crescent Committee. T. J. Murray named successor. Knit program continues with latest Cross Bulletin urging socks for the troops.
The following Lincoln county youths respond to the call to follow old Glory and leave for American Lake training camp. Names listed include George Bork, Lester Conklin, Join Kersey, and others with serials and affiliations.
Mize Daley Bavis conducted morning and evening services at the Baptist church last Sunday and was named General Missionary for Southern Maha. Her duties span the Central Association from Rupert to Turer Man and Oakley to Hutey with a twenty directed talent. Headquarters will be in Shewhone at the home of Mrs. Joe Wheeler.
A damage suit was filed by Le Moyne Farm and Livestock Company and O. S. L. Railroad Company. Attorney M. Cameron represents the plaintiff. A marriage license was issued August 20 to W. E. Campbell of Richfield and Bertha G. Patient of Decatur, Illinois.
The Chautauqua committee is missing six tickets found short in their accounting. It is believed tickets were kept for sale by a member without reporting and no record exists. Anyone found in possession of such tickets should report to J. M. Murray at the McFall hotel.
Members of the Mother's Circle and families gathered at Mrs. J. C. Casada's home Tuesday evening for a fine musical program, delicious refreshments, and an all around good time.
Former Idaho governor Frank R. Gooding announced in Grangeville that he is certain to be nominated by Republicans for the short term in the U S Senate. He is competing with James Aulshie of Coeur d Alene and plans a statewide tour, noting he has only thirty days to win the forty one counties.
M Clark of Dietrich seeks the Democratic nomination for Lieutenant Governor. A Dietrich resident since 1911, he has been local agent for the Oregon Short Line and owns a farm. A former Lincoln County legislator, he supported farm markets, prohibition, and farmer benefits, and he attended the 1912 National Democratic Convention.
The big scales in front of Vredenburshs stare have been torn out this week and workers patch the wall with stone and mortar to prevent further breakdowns. Mr C KR Morsetes returned from trips to Srit Lake and Pocatelle. Mrs Mume picked millinery at Srit Lake and at Pocatelle joined Peeper committee for a revival. WoL dr and Mrs Slur noted in transit with their transparency.
Residents visit relatives in Shoshone and Mountain Home while farm life continues. The second haying is under way on Big Wood with weather-related damage to crops. Local gatherings include a dance auction for a quilt and visits by many families to friends and neighbors.
Mr K B Cannon and sister Florence Butler drove to Mr Cannon's camp with Mr and Mrs Olly Pranidin last Sunday reporting fine sick with the grouse. Mrs Emily Carpenter visits from Gooding to see her father Ben Peck and sister Mrs Witt Sant. FW Kuka seeks two rooms for light housekeeping near south side school for winter. Mr and Mrs Horn were at Marer ranch to register Wednesday evening. A dance is planned for the 24th. Mingle Vienna works for Mra Zelgier. Mrs Bertha Brotzman visiting while waiting for work. Witten Peck starts threshing this week.
The Patriolje Soldiers Mothers Cth reports a summer break then held meetings. They elected officers for the year: Mrs J Fuller President, Mrs C Mite Vice President, Mr Clemments Secretary and Treasurer. The group raised about 2061t this year mostly from sales and raffles. A chair meeting was held at Mrs Brickner's home.
