Wool on Free List Sparks Wool Growers Backlash
A House debate on keeping wool on the free list drew President Wilson into a debate cited by SW McClure, secretary of the National Wool Growers Association. McClure called the claim misinformed, noting wool prices in the U S run higher than London and Boston markets. He warned free wool would slash prices, wreck the sheep industry, and cost millions in revenue, with 580,000 invested in the U S sheep business threatened by policy.
