Dr Edward Sisson commissioner of education issues a statement clarifying the boards policy and duties. The board handles six state institutions, over 2000 students, teacher certification, text books, building plans, and general supervision of public schools. A preliminary survey will inform April findings and proposals.
Mrs A J McKenzie entertained guests in Gooding on Friday afternoon with auction bridge honoring Mrs Walters wife of Judge Walters of Shoshone. Mrs Bissell won first prize and Mrs Walters won guest prize. A two course luncheon was served after the games.
In Idaho a distinguished townsman, Judge Edward A. Walters, will sit on the state Supreme Court for at least a month to aid in a major Mitigation case involving the Public Utilities Act. He departs Shoshone for Horse on Sunday as Justice Stockstager covers the Fourth district term, while Earl P. King of Beverly visits Stu Lake with his parents.
Three deep wells have been sunk in recent months at Averell and surrounding areas. The school well, 242 feet deep, taps plentiful lava strata with an iron casing above ground, powered by a gasoline engine. Two wells on Morrison ranch and Albers ranch faced drilling difficulties, including stuck tools and a dropped hammer ground to atoms. Total cost for pumping equipment around 100 dollars. Water described as good and unfailing, benefiting the school and countryside.

Peter Ryan joins Oliver Dunn and A R B Coates as contenders for Shoshone marshal. Ryan, a skilled baseball player, is praised for reliability and promptness, with trustees possibly scheduling a May meeting to decide, as Marshal Redman plans to resign May 4.
Rev J W Bandy of the Baxter service announces resignation due to Mrs Bandy’s illness. They plan to leave within weeks for California and will return to join in their former home after a successor is installed. The couple, who arrived last June, are praised for their devotion and kindness, and will be missed by Shoshone residents. A separate note condemns alcohol’s harm, citing a man ruined by drink and the loss of self-respect and friendships.
Ginger, a well known town dog in Shoshone, has lived near Richfield since the surveyors arrived nine years ago. The locals pooled funds to procure a proper collar and future sustenance, keeping him safe and well cared for while he remains a favorite among residents and children who enjoy romps with him. Superintendent E L Weaver and James Hunter head to Boise for a declamatory contest, with Eleventh schools from Caldwell to Boise represented in oratorio, dramatic, and humorous divisions. The event, under the Idaho State Declamatory League, features judges, traveling guests, and a postcontest gathering, promising an engaging community weekend.
Idaho shows bonded indebtedness rising from 147000 in 1890 to 2364000 in 1912 while floating debt declines. Investments grow to 4 million by 1912. population expands, per capita debt climbs from 2.05 in 1890 to 5.92 in 1912. Idaho holds 0.4 percent of US population and 0.6 percent of total debt.
The Emerson district votes to test the validity of a county division before the court. The board hires James R. Bothwell as attorney and may add another. Emerson objects to losing four fifths of its property to Lincoln county and plans a court fight to the supreme court if needed.
A vacancy on the Shoshone public schools board will be filled by election next Monday BE. Retiring member A Bowler declines re election. C F Borden has been suggested and tacitly consents to run. Local citizens urged to vote for a candidate as public spirited and responsible to fit the trustee role.
