Shirley Schools Open With New Principals

The east side school opened Monday with Rufus Bird of Mooreland as principal and Hilda Henwood in charge of the primary department. Fifty-nine pupils enrolled, 38 in primary and 21 in other grades. The west side school opens next Monday with Earl Kuhn of Kennard as principal for seventh and eighth grades, Leonard Russell sixth grade, Elijah Reeves fifth grade, Tressie Blakely fourth grade, Agnes Dovey Kennard second grade, and Margaret Reed overseeing the primary and domestic science work.

Wilkinson Schools Open Monday With Half Day Session

Wilkinson schools begin Monday September 11 at 8 30 am with a half day. Pupils will be dismissed for dinner hour and parents should arrange for textbooks to be ordered. books go out in the afternoon. High school students selling oaks should bring them to avoid extra copies. oaks delivered Tuesday morning and paid then. Teachers welcome talks with patrons about children on the first morning and during the year.

County commissioners met Tuesday to appoint H. Marsh, manager of the Shirley Telephone Co., as justice of the peace following a petition by 60 residents of Shirley and nearby areas. Greenfield officials support township self governance and strive to empower locals amid regional criticisms of Shirley.

Mrs Cressie Jones and daughters hosted a social at their Wilkinson Indiana home Friday evening in honor of Mr and Mrs Marshall Jones of Brook Indiana. Brooks Tomato Products Factory Opera at Peak Pace

The Brooks Tomato Products Company cannery is running around the clock in some departments with 63 workers. They are processing roughly three carloads of tomatoes per week as national ripening picks up. Managers plan to operate the plant until about mid November.

Two shows were canceled due to bad weather but the three performances held drew large crowds. Three Month Old S Traw Hat Seriously Hurt

Attending physician Dr Haberdasher says the infant S Traw Hat age three months is in very serious condition after August thirty first accident. Mr Hat suffered severe injuries when hit by a street car then cyclone tossed him nearly a block while en route to hospital. Des Moines plans a novel bootlegging chase using two mixed bloodhounds and deer-hunting dogs trained to scent beer and illegal liquor.
