Brown Township Pioneer John McCray Dies After Accident

John McCray 87 6 20 died Sunday night after a buggy accident that left him with a dislocated shoulder and other injuries. He wed Mary Frances in 1854 and lived his life in Brown township as a farmer and respected elder. He is survived by two sons and four daughters with services at the Stubbs home near Wilkinson conducted by Bishop Floyd.

Will Milner Killed Crossing the Rail Track

Will Milner, 40, died after being struck by a train on the Ingalls line last Wednesday. He left two children aged 9 and 12 with his mother Mrs Betty Milner. funeral was held at home and burial followed at Guy Cemetery in Ingalls.

Birthday party honors Miss Helen with peanut hunt

Mrs G C De Camp entertained Helen's friends on White Street Monday afternoon from 2 to 5. A Peanut Hunt crowned Mable Jackson as the top hunter who received statuary. Lunch followed with ice cream two kinds of cake and bananas. Guests included Laura Hufford Millicent Kern Madge Corrie Mildred Durham Ruth De Camp Evan and Virginia Heyward Crystal De Camp Margaret Pressnall from Charlottesville Mildred Amick and Bonnie Ayers from Wilkinson.

Chautauqua Called for Shirley July 1 to 6

The Meneley Chautauqua System designates July 1 through July 6 for a Shirley Chautauqua. Local effort lags with residents urged to organize a planning meeting and push the project to a successful event this summer.

Hard Time Supper hosted by M E Church Ladies Aid

A Hard Time Supper will be held Saturday evening May 22 in the room north of the Post Office by the Ladies Aid of the M E Church. Admission with supper is 10 cents. Anyone arriving in their best clothes will be fined. A premium for the worst costume. Everyone invited for amusements.

John McCray age 87 died at home north of Wilkinson Monday. Funeral at 2 pm Wednesday conducted by Bishop Floyd of Dublin. Burial in McCray cemetery. Jesse Elliott age 67 died at home in Shirley Tuesday night. Funeral at Friends church Thursday 10 am. Burial in Greensboro cemetery.

Mothers' Day Fete by Alpha Club at Mrs Daniels Home

The Alpha Club celebrated Mothers' Day on May 6 at Mrs Daniels' home. Mrs Ralph Wilson read a paper on loving care from a mother. Mrs Harry Spangler provided musical numbers and members shared lessons from their mothers. Mrs Stirl Rash attended. Lunch was served and the group planned to meet May 20 with Mrs O Durham.

Missionary to India Leaves in October

Rev. Maurice Barrett, recently at a Boston seminary, was hosted by John R. Kitterman and family Tuesday night. Barrett has been appointed a missionary to India and will depart for the field in October.

Sheldon Glass Bottle Company to Operate in Shirley

The contract with the Shirley Commercial Club secures Sheldon Glass Bottle Company to run a Shirley plant for five years with four thousand dollars paid in three equal installments starting September next. The cooperative firm, led by Eshelman, begins operations Sept 1 as families move into Shirley, with local business and citizens backing the venture.

Harold Ray Bricker son of George and Osa Bricker was born April 2 1913 in Wilkinson Ind and died May 2 1915 at the same place aged 2 years 1 month The family notes his cradle roll membership and describes his patience in illness Survived by parents four brothers and grandparents with extended family mourning the loss The obituary offers religious reflections on life and death and the hope of reunion

Eye to be removed from Rev Fredrick Fessler near Grant City

Rev Fredrick Fessler, about 80, traveled to Indianapolis Tuesday to have an eye removed after a prolonged ailment. He had a prior minor operation there that did not help. Fessler spent the winter in Florida and recently returned home.
