Shirley Commercial Club Organized at Star Theatre

A meeting of Shirley business men formed a Commercial Club with Ralph Wilson as president, F A Masterson as vice president, H D Spangler as secretary, and O Durham as treasurer. Directors elected include A A Miller and others. They refer the Smith Beos automobile factory site to the board and plan another Friday meeting for full enrollment.

Miss Lela Spangler Escapes Seemingly Dangerous Standoff

While walking along Railroad Street Miss Lela Spangler was accosted by a man from a nearby bar known for intoxicated patrons and threats. He pursued her before she reached a friend's Illinois Street home, after which she fled inside pale and breathless. She now plans to avoid going out alone and has ordered broader skirts for safety.

A Young Peoples Party in Willow Branch Indiana

Lewis Hinchman Ham, son of Capt. 8. B. Ham, lies in grave condition at St. Vincents Hospital in Yortland Oregon after an appendectomy. Doctors report a relapse despite initial rally. Capt. Revival meeting led by Rev. C. W. Anderson for women

Rev. C. W. Anderson will hold a Sunday afternoon service at 2 00 p m for women following a men’s session last Sunday. Attendance is hoped to grow and many are praying for converts before the revival ends as women show growing interest in joining the Christian journey.

Deaths Reported by Condo and Co

Walter L. Manlove died in Phoenix Arizona Friday morning at age 81. Remains arrived in Wilkinson and were taken to the home of his sister Miss Lucy V Manlove. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 o clock at the M E church in Wilkinson. Turning Star Lodge No 16 Knights of Pythias will conduct the burial service. Interment is in the family lot in Glencove cemetery Knightstown.

Miss Warrick Hostess of L and 8 Club Meet

Bessie Warrick hosted the L and 8 Club at her North Main Street home on Wednesday evening. Members were asked to bring darning needles and the gathering focused on making a comfort for her grandmother. Refreshments followed and members planned to meet Anna Fouiz next Wednesday for business.

Markleville Community Note Highlights Visitors and Local Changes

Markleville residents hosted guests from Middletown and Anderson with various calls and visits. A bakery and barber shop are planned in town, and a large banquet hosted by Jont. Jones featured Pendleton and local families. The Christian Endeavor group at the church recently organized and received literature.

Maxwell Charles Anderson Dies After Illness at Home

Charles Anderson of Maxwell died at his Mendon area home Sunday at 2 30 pm after a period of critical illness. He leaves a widow and five children. Funeral is set for Tuesday in Mendon with interment in Mendon cemetery. The family has broad sympathy.

Dentist in Shirley Expects to Stay and Community Notes

In Shirley a local dentist Dr J W Daniels D D S plans to remain and invites all to participate. A Junior Endeavor is organized with Minnie Gilbreath and Murl Johnson visiting Anderson Tuesday. Various local residents attend church meetings and share meals, with next gathering hosted by Mrs Maud Markle. Family visits, meals, and social events fill the week as neighbors list who spent time with whom and who hosted dinners.

Polk Milk Station Burned At Willow Branch

Polk milk station at Willow Branch burned Sunday morning due to a defective flue. Insurance covered build ing and machinery totaling 1200 dollars. The building and equipment were destroyed and a new cement building will be erected immediately. It is undecided whether the old site will be reused or a new site secured. The new plant will include modern machinery and condensers and will condense milk onsite instead of shipping to Indianapolis.

The Shirley lodge of Masons and their families plus visiting brethren met in the lodge room Wednesday evening with over a hundred attendees. The event featured an excellent program and a notable spread that left everyone happy.

Carmichael Nibarger Accident Settled After Arbitration

A Kennard arbitration board awarded Carmichael 85.00 damages after a collision on the Kennard pike involving W E Nibarger's buggy. Nibarger disputed the Ashland account, asserting Carmichael did not yield and recounting that two small children rode in the buggy, while Carmichael claimed the occupants were women and resumed driving after the incident.
