The K P Lodge of Wilkinson invites members families and visiting brethren to a January 24 1915 basket supper at their hall. The event features music vocal and instrumental performances speeches and comedy acts. The lodge will be open and heated in the evening.
On January 1 1915 the Brown Township Board audited the books of outgoing trustee Ord W Kuhn and praised the township's financial status. Debts fallen from 18500 to about 8500 with 8843 50 in the bank and 44 bonds. Willow Branch and Wilkenson School improvements boosted access and value while taxes rose to 203 per hundred for 1916 to fund road loans.
An employee initiative at the Big 4 depot leads to donated labor and copper wire fixtures to illuminate the telegraph office, ticket window, waiting rooms, and baggage area. The project aims for continuous lighting beyond current limited hours, with likely further improvements such as paint.
After a 33 year absence Milton Jones and his wife from Flora Illinois visited the wife’s relatives including Ruben Rickard and family from Tuesday to Saturday last week. Mrs Jones formerly Malinda Koons daughter of Samuel Koons who lived near Kennard. They met cousins John Koons family and Lizzie Jackson and then traveled to Knightstown to visit Aunt Mrs Schultz.
Eden era gossip lists numerous locals including Perle Alexander and family, Merle O Neal, Mike Owens and W T Baker, J A Alexander and children, Irvin Barnard, Rev A J Duryee, Ed Alford, Vincent Manifold and Indianapolis visitors, Gladys Wilson, Robert McClaren, James Barnard, Chas McClaren, Merril Wilson of Bloomington, Myrtle Baker, Oscar Curtis, Joseph E Wilson, John Hoss, Winfield Powell, McKinley Hunt, Bert Cooper, Sircum family, and Amanda Prather with various visits and activities across Fortville, Irvington, Terre Haute, Maxwell, Greenfield, and Tugates.
The group met at Mrs A 8 Houck’s Main and J home to discuss the year’s profits. Mrs Sylvester Hamilton and Mrs O R Rynearson felt blessed by the outcomes. The hostess provided a pleasant social afternoon and refreshments. Next meeting set with Mrs H C Marsh on Thursday January 14.
About seventy five people attended a New Year's Eve dance at Joe McDaniel's home northwest of town. Music was by Cronk Harris and Rash. Kirley attendees included A A Miller and family Anna Kurzon Joe Kelum Russell Presentall Frank Harris and Stirl Rash. Maud Weir of Shirley died in Indianapolis Friday of tuberculosis and was brought to Wilkison for burial in Harlan cemetery.
Markleville residents host visits and parties while church activities and revivals continue. Sunday School class dinner and a cousin’s party mark community events. Della Reynolds hosts a New Year gathering with prizes.
J.P. Amick and wife hosted Lafayette May and wife of Shirley. Several families from Wil low Branch and nearby towns visited relatives, attended shows, and shared meals over New Year. The community reports improved health, school reopening, and a New York entertainment night with a stereoptical Life of Christ program.
Donna Williams of Anderson attended a social with Ina Mauzy Hazel Chatman Florence Mauzy Ella Sheltos Hildred Mauzy Myrtle Williams Everett Judd Lorn Slaughter Terdill Ham Jesse Shelter Harold Martin Fred Kimmerly Evan Wilson and Lawrence Kennedy. Evan Wilson gave a reading as guests relaxed with music and contests until 2 a.m. in 1915.
Mrs. Maglin Pritchard died at her Kennard home age 83 years 8 months 2 days. Funeral at Columbus Christian church Friday 12 noon. Interment Gilmore cemetery. Maud Weir died in Indianapolis January 1 tuberculosis age 28. Funeral party arrived Wilkinson 11:08 car Sunday. Interment Harlan cemetery family lot. Edward Slaughter died near Warrington Thursday morning age 32 7 15. Funeral Wilkinson Christian Church 10 a m Saturday. Interment McCray cemetery. Morning Star Lodge No. 186 K of P will have charge of burial.
The Athenian club held a New Year’s dance in their club room on South Main street last Thursday evening. Members and guests attended, enjoying the dancing as they rang out the old year.
George Sparks of a mile south of Markleville staged a Rough Stuff stunt during icy weather that amused friends. After delays caused by ice he trekked to town to fix his driving horse at the blacksmith. Markleville is a dry town.
Dr. J. W. Daniela is described as living the creed he preaches and visited New Castle twice last week to have his teeth plugged, illustrating his commitment to his own professed standards.
Harry Spangler and his wife were dinner guests of O. E. McDaniel and his wife at their New Castle home Monday evening. After dinner they enjoyed the English drama Thorne and Orange Blossoms at the Grand theater.
