Fire extinguished in Flatonia ice box blaze at night watchman aid
Special night watchman F A Petru detected heavy odor of smoke near the Ford Service Station and Crystal Cafe. Petru and Martin Martinez pried boards, broke a window and, with a fire extinguisher from a neighboring filling station, suppressed the fire before the fire company arrived. The ice box back caught fire though later deemed an obsolete storage bin, with smoke filling the room. Petru’s vigilance followed recent burglary concerns and business leaders approved the extra cost.
