The United Methodist Church of Shiner sponsors a rummage sale on Saturday October 9 1976 at the Patek Building 711 North Avenue D next to Biehunko Plumbing. Items include miscellaneous goods furniture clothing and tops. Pickup service available at 594-2756.
Parishioners of St. Rose of Lima invite all to a Sept. 26 festival at the K of C Hall. Schulenburg Trail Riders arrive at noon. Fried chicken and stew dinner from 11 00 a.m. Amusements entertainments and refreshments all afternoon. Auction at 2 00 p.m. Telstars provide music for a dance 8 p.m. to midnight.

The Shiner United Fund board met September 14 and set a drive goal of 3800 for six agencies. Agencies include American Red Cross 350 Bluebonnet Youth Ret 500 Boy Scouts 850 Girl Scouts 400 Salvation Army 700 Texas Rehab Center 1. The same goal as last year is proposed with expectation of strong participation.
Historic Gaslight Theatre in Shiner attracts praise from Southwest Texas State University experts and local activists. David Flemming notes its rare features such as a raked stage and wing and drop scenery while Anita Kemp calls it priceless. Dr Peter Coulson backs filing the theatre in the National Directory of Historic Theatres as renovation continues.
HALLETTSVILLE John R Fenner a Speaks area farmer and Edward Hermes a Ezzell area rancher who runs Hermes Feed Mill have applied to the Lavaca County Democratic Executive Committee to replace the late John R Klimitchek as commissioner of Precinct 4 The committee will accept applications until 5 p m September 27 Prospective candidates may contact local residents for details Klimitchek who held the post for 30 years died September 3.
Shiner Rotary Club Vice President Robert Sterling presided in place of President Gus Nollkamper. Dick Williford announced Football Games Contest results with Henry Strauss as high man. Hallettsville seniors Stephanie Simpson and Jay Rubin spoke about their summer in Mexico with host families.
The Western Club of 69 Dance Club hosts a dance at Legion Park on Saturday September 25 with guests. Music provided by the Rondells.
St. Philip's Catholic Parish invites the public to its annual parish picnic at the American Legion Center El Campo on Sunday September 26 1976. College bound students listed from Shiner area move to Texas A&M University College Station to attend higher learning. Names include Reginald Othold and others across Houston San Antonio and San Marcos campuses.
Ehlers Furniture and Appliance Inc. in Halletts ville invites shoppers to a store wide remodeling sale. Doors open 5 p.m. Wednesday September 22 1976 and stay open until 11 p.m. Prices cut 30 50 and 70 percent on many items. Open until 8 p.m. Thursday nights with many savings listed in the insert.
A turkey shoot will be held Sunday September 26 at Vic's Place west on Highway 90-A beginning at 1:00 p.m. Bring 12 16 and 20 gauge shotguns. Shells furnished. Public invited.

Public notice states the paved entrance and exit to the hospital emergency facility and parking area is restricted to emergency vehicles and hospital personnel. It prohibits use as a public thoroughfare and private parking by motorists or bicyclists.
Lavaca County will participate in the Shine Influenza Immunization Program with vaccine distribution in several areas within four to six weeks. Shiner residents may receive the vaccine in Shiner at an announced time. The program offers free swine influenza vaccination to all willing citizens, supported by federal and state health agencies and a volunteer administration effort.
Funeral services were pending for Mrs Kennett A Pfeil of Dallas nee Evelyn Marie Stratman who died Monday September 20 1976 in a Dallas hospital at age 34 years 7 months 17 days The body was brought to Buffington Funeral Home Shiner services tentatively set for Thursday Complete write up next week.
