Shiner High Opens Term With Strong Enrollment and Athletics

On Monday morning September 8 the first day of the new term at Shiner High enrolled 197 pupils. Superintendent Leslie urged thorough preparation for life work, stressing faculty and patron efforts for a record year. Irene Turk and Jusie Perry were named team captains for the senior and junior girls as athletic clubs organized. The Parent-Teacher Association met Thursday to discuss school plans and a pie supper for Friday after school.

Cotton bale counts in Lavaca County 1924 crop report

J. J. Macha, special agent of the department of commerce, reports Lavaca County ginned 13,093 bales of cotton in the 1924 crop prior to September 1, counting half bales. This compares with 19,916 bales ginned by September 1, 1923.

PTA Meeting At High School Seeks Continued Support

The Parent Teacher Association held a regular meeting at the High School last Thursday with good attendance. Officers urged mothers to attend regularly, noting meetings occur on the second Thursday each month. New faculty members Bess Lea McCann December Koester joined, along with Mesdames Clarke Jaroszewski and Hilda Prouse. A pie sale is planned for next Monday at the High School campus and patrons are asked to contribute pies. The planned social was postponed due to scheduling conflicts this month.

Funeral for venerable Meyersville resident at 91

The many friends of Mrs. Louis Trautwein extend sincere sympathy on the passing of her father at Meyersville Sunday morning. He was nearly 91. Funeral was Monday afternoon attended by Mr. and Mrs. Trautwein, Mrs. B. F. Wolters, Mrs. Wm. Wendtland Jr. and Miss Stela Wolters.

Annual Picnic and Bazaar at Shiner Catholic Parish

The Catholic parish of Shiner will hold an annual picnic and bazaar at Bluecher park on September 28 1924. A rich dinner is to be served at 12 15 p m with music for entertainment. A palatable lunch will follow at 4 p m and a bazaar auction of useful articles will take place. All are cordial invited by The Committee.
