The Shi ner Kiwanis Club marked the official start of Kiwanis in Shiner with Charter Night on Tuesday August 30 1977 at 7 30 p.m. at Patek's Restaurant. The event welcomed a new chapter joining clubs across the United States and abroad.
Shiner Rotary Club featured Head Coach Calvin Tucker of Shiner High School as program chairman August 31. Tucker discussed this year’s football situation, players, and challenges, noting the team’s hard work and aims to reach the top. Kiwanis guests and officials from multiple clubs attended, and the Shiner Kiwanis received a new charter with a presentation by Governor Don Wilson of Fort Worth.
Annual Shiner Catholic Church Picnic named prize winners for a list of 23 items. Delphin Hund, Mrs Jerry Kurtz, John J Kurtz, Gary Mikes, Raymond Pekar and others from Shiner or nearby areas claimed awards such as a riding mower, washer, air conditioner, bicycles, savings bonds, cash, gift certificates, and a beer cooler.

Mr and Mrs Marvin J Kocian of Shiner announce a daughter Jennifer Lynn born Sept 3 1977 at 1122 am in Shiner Hospital weight 6 lb 13 oz. She was transported by MAST helicopter to Santa Rosa Hospital San Antonio Sept 5 for further treatment. Grandparents Verona Vogt and William Gerum. Great grandmother Mary Kocian. The Browns of Gonzales announce a son Buttons George born Sept 1 1977 at Shiner Hospital weight 7 lb 12 oz. Brother Tinker Irvin, 5. Grandparents George Sutton and Irvin Brown. Ambulance Unit 911 holds September 7 meeting at 7 p.m. at the old Fire Station. High School Yearbooks 1977 pickups at the business office by September 9. Catholic Altar Society meets September 13 at 3 p.m. Parish Gym. VFW and Auxiliary meet September 8 at 8 p.m. at the Post Home. KJZT No. 5 observes Corporate Communion September 11 at 8 30 a.m. Mass with meeting at 1 30 p.m. Parish Gym to discuss district meeting and door prize registration.
A dated hospital roster for September 6 1977 lists patient transfers including Mrs Bertha Kuerschner Mrs Helen Oltman and a baby girl for Mr and Mrs Kocian and other named patients at Shiner Flatonia Hallettsville and surrounding areas. Dismissals include David Schreiber Arthur Corning and several others.
Dennis Mraz says the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church picnic on Sunday Sept 4 1977 set new attendance and proceeds records surpassing 1976. Auction led the gains with over 25 percent more than last year, with coverage by George and Mrs Carmack and Bobby Strauss.

Henry Strauss of the Shiner Gazette received the SWCD Award for Outstanding Newspaper through the Lavaca Soil and Water Conservation District. District Chairman Joseph Janak praised Strauss for promoting conservation via weekly columns and informing citizens about conservation techniques.
