Rites Held For Herman Garbe In Nordheim

Funeral services were held for Herman A. Garbe at St. Ann's Church Nordheim at 10 30 a m Thursday August 24 1967 following his death August 22 after a long illness He was 70 years old Burial took place in Nordheim Cemetery Garbe a Nordheim leader was a contractor and builder who served as mayor of Nordheim and chaired the school board He survived by his wife one son Charles Herman Garbe and five sisters and three grandchildren with several brothers and sisters listed as predeceased.

Mrs Lena Baskin Buried In Shiner

Funeral services for Mrs Lena Emler Baskin 83 were held Monday in Yoakum with Rev. D I Dalton officiating. Interment was in Shiner City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Baskin relatives and Houston residents. Survived by two sons Allen and Kenneth Baskin of Houston, three grandsons and one granddaughter. A sister Mrs Fritz Maeker preceded her in death.

A Religious First In Shiner

Father John J. Hanacek of Shiner’s Sts Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church celebrated Mass for Catholic residents and visitors at Trinity Lutheran Home in Shiner on September 5. The service included non Catholics from Lutheran and Methodist faiths and Assembly of God as well. He spoke on ecumenical council changes and thanked Administrator Johnson. Mass will be held on the first Tuesday of each month at the home.

Boy Scouts of Troop 232 announce a garage sale on Saturday September 9 starting at 9:00 a.m. at the former Shiner Garage Sembera building near the corner of Highway 90 A and 6th Street.
