The Catholic Parish of Shiner will hold its annual picnic and bazaar at Bluecher Park on Sunday September 11 offering a good dinner cold drinks and amusement. Patek's band will provide music. The Junior Luther League met August 28 and donated $5 to the Lutheran Hospital at Cuero with officers elected including Stella Mueller as president and Lillie Schneider as vice president. Faculty Reception Planned by Parent Teachers Association
The Parent Teachers Association held a called meeting at the High School to plan a reception for the 1927-28 faculty. Committees were appointed and Sept. 12 was set for the event at the new City Hall. The gathering is for all friends and patrons, not for P T A members alone. The next regular P T A meeting will occur Sept. 15, on a change from the usual day.

Franz J. Meyer passes at 76 in Shiner community
After weeks of suffering Franz J. Meyer died Tuesday night around 8:30 in Shiner. Born June 20 1851 in Kuninwald Austria he emigrated in 1873 and settled in Schulenburg then moved to Shiner in 1889. He married three times and left 19 grandchildren and one great grandchild along with three surviving children and two sons in law and two daughters in law. Funeral Mass was held Thursday at 9 am with St Joseph's Society and O D H S Lodge in attendance.

Passing of UCM Hughs in San Antonio and funeral in Wharton
The community learned of UCM Hughs death in San Antonio Saturday night after a month under a specialist's care. The funeral occurred Monday afternoon in Wharton at 3 o'clock. With out-of-town family, details will be released next week. Also, Irene and Lillian Turk and Emma Grant return from San Marcos Teachers College. In the Palace Theatre $2500 drawing last Friday, ticket 117738 was drawn but the holder was absent. the next drawing 1178965 awarded the prize to Miss Rosie Darilek.
