The West Texas Conference of the Methodist church closed its session in San Antonio Sunday night with pastor assignments to churches. Reports show combined conference membership at 41,494. Cuero district list includes Rev. Rector as Shiner pastor for four years and appointed Presiding Elder of Kerrville District. Rev. Scarbrough returned as Presiding Elder of Cuero District.
Mr Arthur Krueger of Houston spent several days here with his parents Mr and Mrs Elton Krueger.
The Epworth League program at the Methodist church last Sunday night was highly interesting and pleasing with strong readings and musical numbers. Special mention goes to Miss Willie Barton for reading and Misses Fink and Koester for singing, praised for expression and effect. Attendance was highly complimentary and the event is encouraged to be repeated more often.
The body of Private Frank Stanek arrived at Shiner depot last Friday. A Kolar Stanek Post American Legion delegation met the procession. The funeral was held Sunday October 23 in Catholic Cemetery with services by Fathers Wolf Netardus and Sikora. Interment followed. flag presented to Mrs Stanek. The Gon zales Post Legion Band provided solemn music. Stanek, born May 2 1896, died October 2 1918 after service in Camp Travis Camp Gordon New York Brest France. Survived by father, mother, two brothers Joe John and sister Miss Alving Stanek.
Mrs Elsa Elizabeth Spoetzl died at her home after a severe illness last Monday. The funeral was held yesterday at 3 30 p m in City Cemetery with local attendees.
The Twentieth Century Club met at Mrs. Elo Wolters home. Miss Matilda Hollman was elected a member. Led by Mrs. Wolters the program covered Explorers on Land by Miss Annie Laurie Morrison Explorers of the Arctic by Mrs. Ella Moeckel and Explorers of Other Waters by Mrs. Wolters. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Hugh Koether.
Bertha Jahn became Mrs Eddie Berckenhoff in a daytime wedding at her parents home. The celebration continued with a dance and a late supper as guests wished the couple happiness. The groom is son of Wm Berckenhoff and the bride daughter of Theo John of Charlottenburg.
The stork visits Shiner as Fritz Ehlers welcomes a fine girl baby. Neighbors and family extend congratulations to the pleased father and new mother.
The family of Private Frank Stanek expresses heartfelt thanks to the Women’s Auxiliary of Shiner the Kolar Stanek Post American Legion Shiner Gonzales Post American Legion and to Revs Fathers Wolf Netardus and Sykora for floral offerings. Mr and Mrs Joe Stanek and children Arno Wagner and son Glen and Mrs E J Wolters and daughter Clara motored to Schulenburg last Sunday.
The Lutheran congregation invites attendance for Sunday school at 9 30 a m and services at 10 30 a m with a night program by the Luther League at 7 30 p m Pastor W C Wolfsdorf signs the notice. The weather report compares Fort Worth and Shiner temperatures from last Friday noting Fort Worth was ten degrees warmer.
Mr. E. H. Klosterman returned last Saturday from a business trip to Orange Grove.
