Shiner Local Institute Opens With Partial Attendance

The Shi ner Local Institute held its first meeting at 10:00 A M on Saturday October 10 with T J Ponton G R Jaroarewald O Schoentogel and several Misses Berta Thornton Lizzie C Kyle Dorothy Schattenburg Sophie Amsler and Annie Frye present. Attendance was below expectations due to some members not having begun school but the program proceeded and attendees promised to be involved.

Teachers urged to aid in Constitutional Amendment work

A brief from Lone Tree notes fair weather and cool mornings as residents gather fleeces and haul corn. The eldest daughter of P Basparek died and was buried in Shiner Catholic cemetery. A grand ball is planned at Vinstenee Hall on Oct 17 and local residents attend various visits and social events.

Bohemian farmer fatally shoots wife near Flatonia

In Flatonia Texas on October 11 John Jance a Bohemian farmer four miles east of town shot and killed his wife who slept with their children. After drinking he returned home at 2 am and fled but was captured hiding in a wood later. Sheriff took him to La Grange as the community reeled from the tragedy.
