Texas quail season opens with varied limits statewide

Game officials announced the quail season will run December 1 to January 16 with a 12 per day or 36 per week bag in most areas. In 28 Panhandle counties the limit is 10 per day with 20 in possession, and December-only shooting is allowed west of the Pecos with 12 per day and 24 in possession. Hunters are urged to send one wing from each bird to the commission in Austin for a population study.

Stryk Sr. Frank of Praha Buried in Local Service

Funeral services for Frank Stryk Sr., 63, Praha, were held at St. Mary's Catholic church with interment in Praha Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Albina, five sons including Rev Jerome Stryk, and four daughters, ten grandchildren, and two brothers.

Hewig-Wenske Rites Read In Catholic Church

Miss Irene Hewig and Bennie H. Wenske wed in a Nuptial Mass officiated by Rev J J Hanacek on Tuesday morning November 28. Witnesses were Roy Hewig and Jos PAVELKA. The bride wore white slipper satin with a basque waist, lace edged veil, and pearl necklace. She carried a Rosary and handkerchief. flowers were white carnations. The groom wore a brown suit with a white carnation boutonniere. The couple, after a luncheon at the Schroeder home, plan to live with the groom’s parents.

Five Year Suspended Sentence For Cora Kuykendall Murder Case

The District Court in Hallettsville sentenced Cora Lee Kuykendall, colored, to a five year suspended term after a trial that ended around 2 p.m. Tuesday November 21. She was charged with the murder of West Gladney in Shiner on June 3.

Lavaca County Pastures Swept by Large Grass Fires

Large areas of pastureland in Lavaca County’s southern section burned as grass and brush fires raged. The Leo Gerdes ranch fire was checked after scorching 600 acres, with damage reported on Jeff Roden and Eddie Neuhaus properties. The Shiloh area brush fire added to the growing danger amid the drought, described as the worst in years.

Shiner's annual Tree Of Light event organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Business Men's Club will take place Friday at 5 30 p m Santa Claus will arrive by air escort by the High School band and a package will be given to each child in attendance A full program of events is planned for next week with more details to follow.

The annual country store and bazaar at Shi ner Motor Sales offers baked goods cakes kolaches pecan pies home made bread dressed chickens noodles sausage and country products. Hand made pillow cases scarfs and Christmas items will be for sale with a door prize for registrants. Registration begins at 9 30 a m and invites visitors to select Christmas gifts and Sunday dinner options.

Mrs A F Brosch Ill in Temple Surgery a Success

Alfred Brosch returned Tuesday night from Temple where he was summoned Sunday to be with his mother at Scott and White Hospital she underwent surgery Monday. He says she stood the operation remarkably well but remains quite ill.

Funeral services for John Roznovsky were held November 23 at 9:15 am from the Buf fington Funeral Home to Shiner Catholic Church for a Requiem High Mass. Burial was in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. He was 40 with a daughter Mildred and widow Lillie Kusak. He farmed in Gonzales County and was a Catholic.

Poultry Specialist Visits Shiner December 7 Evening

Lavaca County farmers and families invited to a lecture by a top poultry expert.
