Governor Mirriam A Ferguson urged Texans to lay aside usual duties and give thanks to Almighty God on Thanksgiving Day. The proclamation calls for gratitude and guidance for the coming year, with about 100 pardons expected to be issued within a week to convicts effective on Thanksgiving Day.
Shiner Bay on board as last Friday's Houston Chronicle reported a well equipped five coach Cotton Belt orchard demonstration train stopped in Tyler. The train cooperates with A. and M. College and visits all fruit concentration centers. Schools visited the train as a body. Lectures were given by A. and M. College representatives and Cotton Belt agricultural commissioners. Paul Meaver delivered an instructive lecture, a highlight for Shiner.
The schedule lists Mass at 6 30 a m on weekdays and 7 30 and 9 30 a m on Sundays with an 8 p m Sunday devotion in English. Sermons alternate Sundays with German and Bohemian sermons. the Bohemian service shifts on the fourth Sunday. Pastor L P Netardus leads.
Next Sunday morning at 11 AM and evening at 7 PM services will be conducted by Rev. Jos. Green, pastor. Everyone is invited to attend these services.
Robt J Bednar requests sending the Gazette to Delray Florida as his company has him on the road for winter. His time will be split between Florida and the Magic Valley of Texas where he serves as buyer.
Mrs M E Wolters hosted a brief gathering of neighbors and relatives last Wednesday noon November 18 to bid farewell to Mrs Alois Kasper who will depart for Florida. Expressed regrets at her leaving and hope spring in Shiner will bring a reunion after wintering in Hollywood.
In a rural sermon Simon Soggs questions the meaning of thanksgiving as crops fail and prices collapse. The deacon insists on gratitude while Soggs laments ruined yields, wrecked hay, ruined livestock, and the toll of railroads and politicians. He ends warning of a country in distress and calls out corruption and tax burdens.
St Ludmila's High School lists first quarter honor roll with students across grades 7 9 11. Named include Albert Janik Louis Michulka Norbert Tassler Annie Valis Lillian Migr Edwin Hofner Louise Novak and others earning high grade point totals.
Port Arthur November 20. The Young Men's Business League aims to beautify the city by having property owners plant 5000 new trees and shrubs by year’s start. Over 2000 orders have already been placed and supporters back the campaign. The local By Scouts chapter assists in the effort.

On November 19 Mrs. Wm. Wendtland Jr. hosted the Methodist Ladies Aid with scripture reading and prayer. A business session followed by an interesting program concluded with a salad course. The January gathering will be hosted by Mrs. Arno Wagener.
The Twentieth Century Club met at Mrs. Eio Wolters home on Thursday November 19 with twenty one members and one guest Miss Bernadine Puphanken of La Grange. After the business meeting a program featured Mars Raphael Vulcan Velasquez Apollo Belvedere and social session was set for November 24. The next regular meeting is December third at 3 pm at Mrs. D A Brieger’s home.
Wolters Brothers Co offers All Ladies and Misses hats at 1-2 price. Senator Bailey of Cuero visited Friday as a guest of Senator Russek. The Cuero senator said politics were quiet, eyes on the Highway muddle, and invited Russek and the Editor on a duck hunt. Schulenburg Sticker reports Mr. and Mrs. D. Meyer returned from San Antonio where they visited daughters Misses Seima and Bertha.
