All business places in Shiner will close on November 36 for Thanksgiving Day as chosen by the town. The Post Office will observe November 23 per the President's Proclamation with no rural delivery that day but normal service resumes on November 30. On November 30 the post office will close with partial delivery throughout the day.
Tonight at seven o clock the Shiner Business Men's Club holds its regular meeting at Meyers' Modern Cafe. Luncheon members should come prepared to pay November luncheon dues.
Rev A Guyon will fill his regular appointment at the Methodist Church Sunday morning at 11 oclock and Sunday night at 7 oclock. Public cordially invited to worship with this congregation.
Church services at the Czech Moravian Brethren Church will be held Monday night, November 27, led by Reverend Joseph Barton of Granger.

A Thanksgiving Day service will be held in Hallettsville at 10 45 oclock Thursday morning November 30 1939 in harmony with the Presidents Proclamation and that of the state governor The Mother Church and its Boston branches conduct similar services worldwide The order includes a Lesson Sermon on Thanksgiving and a period to express gratitude for blessings of the past year The Golden Text reads Rejoice evermore Pray without ceasing In every thing give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you 1 Thessalonians 5 16 18.
A Sunday lesson sermon titled Ancient and Modern Necromancy denounces Mesmerism and hypnotism in Churches of Christ, Scientist. The Golden Text cites Isaiah 8 19 urging people to seek God rather than familiar spirits or wizards.

The group including Wm. Zappe and Dr. H A Zappe traveled to Brady with Dr. H H Milner Blake Yaeger and J B Curtis of Mineral Wells. All but Mr Zappe tagged a buck. Dist Clerk Gus Strauss of Hallettsville ends season after bagging a 7 and an 8 point buck.
Herman Jaks bagged an eight point buck in the Jurican pasture. Dr C L Kopecky of Yoakum returned from a Kerrville deer hunt with a seven point buck and a gobbier.
On Sunday November 26 at 2 p m a farmers meeting will be held at Wolters Park Schulenburg The gathering aims to discuss the Present Farm Program All farmers Chamber of Commerce representatives ginners and business men are urged to attend this important meeting
Wednesday November 29 is designated as John Deere Day in Shiner. The event at the Blohm Building features a picture show a demonstration of the latest John Deere implements and refreshments, sponsored by Hajek Implement and Supply Co. Free admission tickets available.
The Marek home welcomed a baby boy born November 21 weighing 9 pounds. Alfons Sitka and wife welcomed a daughter named Leonita born November 19.
Santa Claus will return to our city this year to usher in the Christmas season. He will stop on December 8 at 5 30 PM. The Business Association Jub and Chamber of Commerce sponsor the Christmas Tree event.
The 1940 Farm Program meetings will be held in Hallettsville County Court Room on Tuesday November 21 at 7 30 p m Shiner on Saturday November 25 at 7 30 p m Yoakum on November 23 at 7 30 p m Moulton on Friday November 24 at 7 30 p m G E Jaehné secretary treasurer Lavacanty ACA oversees the events.
A special Thanksgiving celebration will be held at Midway Hall on Sunday November 26 starting at 1 p m. Proceeds benefit Mich na Beasley Schools with plenty of entertainment speaking and a dance at night. Everyone is invited.

Miss Ruth Dooley daughter of W. P. Dooley of Bryan and Willie Riskey were married Friday at the Flachmeier in Charlottenburg. The bride wore a gray trimmed dress and the groom a dark blue business suit. Relatives and friends gathered at the groom’s home for the wedding. Mrs. Riske is a former teacher at Boursville School and has taught near Bryan. They reside on the Wm. Riske homestead. The Gazette extends best wishes for health happiness and prosperity in a long married life.
The Western Bohemian Fraternal Association Shiner Lodge No.317 held its initiation on November 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Henkhaus Hall with about 40 new members. Pres. Kolacny led a program aided by officers and Joseph Nemec of Cedar Rapids. Nemec secured 36 new members with insurance policies during his one month stay, then departed for Houston. Speakers covered the Czech motto Truth Love Loyalty, in Czech and English, with songs and a dance. The Z C B J supports Czech schools orphans and poor farms has a strong American presence. A meeting is planned December 3 at 2 p.m. to elect new officers.
F M Baros owner expresses gratitude to friends and public for patronage during opening season at Kokernot Grove Dance Garden. He notes winter closure and looks forward to another season in 1940s. Appreciation offered for cooperation and support.
Della Treptow expresses gratitude for friends church members flowers visits and cards during illness in hospital and home. She thanks Baptist Church Sunday School Rev Burns doctors Wagner and Boyle and the nurses and asks God to bless them all.
Buske and Buske Tractor Co announced to sell the Ford Tractor with Ferguson system in Lavaca County. James F. Buske travels from Houston for salesmen training. Demonstrations are set for Saturday November 25 at the Buske and Buske Feed Mill.
Dr. Homer P. Rainey of the University of Texas plans pre inauguration conferences on The State and Public Education. The series begins December 7 at 3 p.m. in Hogg Auditorium with ex students and Shiner Lavaca residents invited to attend. Rainey urges ex students to act as a committee of one to inform others and encourage attendance as part of a statewide discussion on education and social economic life.
A Saturday night crash killed 17 year old Daniel Alaniz in a Model A Coupe carrying four peers. Gabriel Arredondo suffered a broken arm and bruises while others were bruised. Funeral services were held Monday in a Catholic Church and burial followed west of town. Survivors include his parents and four brothers.
Mr and Mrs Edmund Bares of the county area welcomed a baby boy at the local hospital Sunday morning but the infant died after about an hour on earth. The burial occurred Sunday at 5 p.m. in City Cemetery with Rev Schuetze officiating. The funeral was held at the Hauschildt home, grandparents of the child. Other grandparents were Mr and Mrs Joe Baros Sr. The family extends heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved.
Patrons and teachers met at the Twe Komensky school on Friday evening November 17 to plan a Thanksgiving dinner and supper with all the trimmings. The Parent-Teacher Association decided to buy more turkeys to feed everyone, with Mr Sustr to prepare the stew and the Migl-Vogt orchestra providing music for the evening dance.
The Luther Hall event on Wednesday November 15 sponsored by the Lutheran Choral Club and mothers featured Mexican style décor and meals. Rev. Schuetze opened with a prayer, Miss Aline Zappe led a Q&A, and Wolf Brand Products representative W. A. Massey spoke alongside his wife. Funds raised totaled $38 with thanks given to multiple donors and supporters.
Shiner High School faculty present a three act farce titled Full of Youth at the gymnasium auditorium on Tuesday at eight. Gilbert Kasper and Leonard Darilek star in roles as Sonny Baynes and Jerry Gordon with a cast including Mrs Rosanna S Howard Mrs Baynes Linda Valerie Vance and others. Rehearsals led by Miss Mae Rogge and Mrs Ella E Lane. Tickets 25c adults 10c children.
The Shiner Branch of the American Red Cross requests contributions from residents who have not yet answered the Roll Call. Donors are urged to leave envelopes at the First National Bank without waiting to be solicited.
Henry Strauss of the New Era Herald and Lee Sedimeyer of the Shiner Gazette returned from Dallas after a three day State Editorial Convention. Editors were guests of Texas Power and Light Co in Trinidad with a Southwestern Life Insurance Co dinner. A highlight was the Evil Old Men Dinner honoring John N Garner. The meeting proved very interesting and educational.
The local K T Society held a Thanksgiving luncheon at Blucher Park on Sunday. It proved a social and financial success, with cats described as delicious and a netted sum of $140.
The hospital lists patients including Mrs Philip Kloesel and baby of Weimar Mrs Dick Meyer John Ondrusek Emil Harbers Mrs Edmund Baros Mrs John Schacher of Shiner Frank Kolar of Moulton Cyril Dornak of Waelder with Gabrial Arredondo of Shiner discharged.
A note from Mrs J W Burtis thanking friends for visits flowers cards and other cheer during her illness. She also thanks the doctors and nurses and prays for blessings on all who offered kindness.
Shiner Scouts win the Yoakum Circus as a northerly rain dampens the last showday. About 250 scouts and cubs, including Sea Scouts from Austin, performed feats in first aid, pioneering, rope work, and tents. Shiner led the field with chromatic acts while Schulenburg and Hallettsville cubs showcased village and pioneer programs. District Commissioner J M Woolsey received the key medal from Lier M O Nea l for longtime service.
The Wesselsky family expresses sincere gratitude to neighbors and friends for deeds of kindness after the death of their son Charles Henry. Special thanks go to Rt. Rev. Mons. Netardus Father Bily the chair and the doctors and nurses for floral offerings and last rites. Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Wesselsky Emil Jr. and Betty Ann.
The Catholic Youth Organization held its regular meeting with the president leading a prayer. Minutes from the last meeting were approved and a motion set monthly meetings for the first Sunday after the first Friday at 7 p m. A Thanksgiving party was planned for November 29 at the parish hall. All members and prospects were urged to attend. The meeting adjourned until December 3.
Mr and Mrs Wm Wendtland Jr observed their twenty fifth wedding anniversary last Thursday in Rockdale with their son William III, band instructor in Rockdale schools. A fifty seven member band offered selections and Fred Graves, head of the schools, hosted informal tea at his home. Friends extend continued health and happiness to the couple.
