Notes and comments show exam times for Hallettsville Yoakum Cuero and Gonzales. Hallettsville Court House and Yoakum Police Station host Tuesday and Friday slots respectively while Cuero Court House offers Thursday hours. Gonzales Court House operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Agricultural bulletin explains how pink bollworms and boll weevils survive cold Texas winters. It notes that by October 15 about half of these pests reach overwintering readiness, with larvae hiding in waste cottonseed and bolls, while boll weevils diapause to fatten and seek sheltered sites such as grassy banks and leaf mold before winter.

Funeral services for Fred Breithaupt Sr. were held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the United Dr. Martin Luther Church Shiner with Rev F E Eilers officiating. Burial followed in Shiner City Cemetery with grandsons acting as pallbearers.

Lavaca County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee chair Eugene N. Hermes says a mail referendum for 1969 70 and 1971 peanut quotas will run December 2 6 1968. Voters include those with both peanut and cotton allotments. landlords cannot vote. If two thirds approve quotas will apply for three years and price support to those who comply. If opposed quotas penalties and reduced price support apply and another 1969 vote may occur.
The Senior class of St. Paul High School will hold a bake sale on Saturday November 23 at Patek's Market downtown. Proceeds support the senior class with a variety of homemade goodies for Thanksgiving needs.

A turkey shoot is scheduled at Larry's Place on Sunday November 24 starting at 1 30 p.m. Participants bring shotguns and all are invited. Larry's Place sits on the Shiner Gonzales highway in the former Victor Pulkra bek's Store and is sponsored by the 621st MKR.
Funeral services were held for Jim Charles Winklarek born January 29 1889 at Shiner LaVaca County Texas. He died November 1 1968 in Holmes Memorial Hospital aged 79 years 9 months 2 days. Burial was at Shiner Catholic Cemetery. He is survived by his wife four daughters fourteen grandchildren seven great grandchildren and multiple step siblings.

Russell 66 year old Applewhite dies from tractor accident near Shiner. He was pinned under the overturned tractor while reworking a terrace and pronounced dead at the scene. Funeral planned at First Baptist Church in Shiner with burial in Restland Cemetery Yoakum. Survivors include wife Sadie and daughter Betty Joyce Dudman.
