Peanut Marketing Quota Referendum Dates Announced

Lavaca County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee chair Eugene N. Hermes says a mail referendum for 1969 70 and 1971 peanut quotas will run December 2 6 1968. Voters include those with both peanut and cotton allotments. landlords cannot vote. If two thirds approve quotas will apply for three years and price support to those who comply. If opposed quotas penalties and reduced price support apply and another 1969 vote may occur.

Rites Held For Jim Winklarek in Gonzales and Shiner

Funeral services were held for Jim Charles Winklarek born January 29 1889 at Shiner LaVaca County Texas. He died November 1 1968 in Holmes Memorial Hospital aged 79 years 9 months 2 days. Burial was at Shiner Catholic Cemetery. He is survived by his wife four daughters fourteen grandchildren seven great grandchildren and multiple step siblings.

Injuries Fatal To R. M. Applewhite

Russell 66 year old Applewhite dies from tractor accident near Shiner. He was pinned under the overturned tractor while reworking a terrace and pronounced dead at the scene.
