Dallas November 12 Texas reports a record 2,073,021 general election votes in a final unofficial tally by the Texas Election Bureau. Director Robert Johnson notes possible small add ons from minor parties and a constitutional amendment, not enough to change outcomes.

SLA Harvest Festival crowns royal court at St. Ludmila’s

The 1952 SLA Harvest Festival at St. Ludmila’s Academy crowned King Bounty III Pat of the House of Wagner and Queen Albina of the House of Spain. Dukes and duchesses accompanied the royal couple, with a student dramatization of a United Nations inspired play "Let's Get Together" and a Mexican supper fundraiser guiding the day.

American Legion Armistice Day Proves Success

The American Legion and Legion Auxiliary report a successful Armistice Day with community cooperation and strong patronage. Festivities began at 3 p.m. with lunch by the Auxiliary, a sausage supper at 5 p.m. by the Legion, and a dance featuring Patek's Orchestra. Post gross exceeded $700 with Auxiliary at $375 and thanks extended to the public.

Holidays Announced For Public School in Shiner

Shiner Public Schools will dismiss Wednesday evening November 26 for Thanksgiving weekend. Classes resume Monday December 1 for a four day holiday. The State Teachers Association meets in El Paso over Thanksgiving weekend and teachers will get the holiday. Christmas holidays dismiss Tuesday afternoon December 23 and resume Monday January 5 1953.

A Welhausen farm home of Mr and Mrs Jim Roznovsky burned Thursday with undetermined origin while the family wasn't at home. Neighbors discuss relief efforts led by Joe Mikesh with donations accepted at Buffington Funeral Home. Band Sponsors Club Announces December 5 Concert

Mystery Farm Identified as Janak Nursery Near Shiner

The November 6 aerial photo shows the Janak Nursery seven miles east of Shiner owned by Mrs Alois Janak and Miss Antonia Pustka. Leo Janak runs the nursery with Rita Hubner and Miss Pustka assisting. 6 acres of land, 8500 to 9000 arborvitae, greenhouse, deep irrigation well, and extended terraces. Also noted is last week’s identification of the Boedeker farm near Shiner, a 90 acre tract owned by the Boedeker family since 1944 with 7 children, various barns, and 25 cattle plus 6 hogs.

All business houses in Shiner will close for Thanksgiving Day on Thursday November 27. Many fans will travel to Austin for the annual A&M and Texas Longhorn game while local religious services will be held across Shiner churches to give thanks for the year's blessings.

Plunkett Show Heads to Shi ner for Three Nights

The Plunkett Show arrives in Shi ner on November 20 to 22 for three big nights at the American Legion Grounds under American Legion auspices. The two hour program features 20 acts and 30 participants with trained seals acrobatic acts and a three act musical comedy each night.

Huge sweet potato on display at Gazette Office

P. J. Forbes grows a colossal sweet potato in his daughter Mrs. Frank Steiner’s garden. The 14% pound vegetable measures 19 inches long and 19 inches around with a 7 inch diameter. Forbes boasts the potato surpasses all Tennessee grown spuds.
