Postmaster Arthur T Ward outlines new dispatch rules for Shiner and Victoria routes. Weekdays require 4 30 p m cutoff for dispatch while Saturdays and Sundays tighten handling with no mail dispatched Sundays no mail received. Holidays vary with mail received and processed in Victoria 430 p m.

Luther League Stew Supper Sunday at Social Hall

The Luther League hosts its annual stew supper on Sunday November 14 starting at 5 30 p m at the Lutheran Social Hall. Menu includes stew cole slaw homemade bread corn bread cake iced tea and coffee. Prices are 75 cents for adults 50 cents for students and free for children under 6.

Jim Ehler 90 former Shiner resident died October 30 1971 in St Josephs Hospital Houston at 90 years 10 months 5 days after two weeks in the hospital He was born December 25 1880 in Austria Germany and moved to Texas as a child He married Ella Spies in 1921 and lived in Charlottenburg before working for Borden Milk Co He is survived by his wife son Clarence Evelyn and grandson Darryl Ehler along with three sisters and many nieces and nephews Burial was in Shiner City Cemetery with pallbearers including nephews Eli Kremling Gus Ehler Joe Ehler Hilbert Pechacek Clarence Sines and Lawrence Lucas

John Kubicek Elected Mascot of Firemen's & Fire Marshals' Ass'n

Little John Kubicek son of Mr and Mrs Jim L Kubicek Jr of Moulton was unanimously elected mascot of Guadalupe Firemen's & Fire Marshals' Association at the 71st semi annual convention in Hallettsville on Sunday October 31 1971. Over 1000 members wives and families from 60 fire departments attended. The event included a memorial service a noon meal pumper races and a dance with the George Machart Orchestra.

Quail and Deer Seasons Open. Dove End Date Set

The 1971 Lavaca County deer season runs November 13, 1971 to January 2, 1972 with a two deer limit per hunter and no more than one buck. Spikes count as bucks. Quail season opens November 13 and runs to February 15. Dove season in the South Zone, including Lavaca County, opens September 25 and closes November 23 with a bag limit of 10 and possession limit of 20. Hunting is noon to sunset.

Lavaca County Grand Jury in Hallettsville on November 1 returns twelve indictments.
