Postmaster Arthur T Ward outlines new dispatch rules for Shiner and Victoria routes. Weekdays require 4 30 p m cutoff for dispatch while Saturdays and Sundays tighten handling with no mail dispatched Sundays no mail received. Holidays vary with mail received and processed in Victoria 430 p m.
The Luther League hosts its annual stew supper on Sunday November 14 starting at 5 30 p m at the Lutheran Social Hall. Menu includes stew cole slaw homemade bread corn bread cake iced tea and coffee. Prices are 75 cents for adults 50 cents for students and free for children under 6.
The Shiner Comanches travel to Somerville for a district football clash at 8 p.m. Friday November 12. It is the season finale for 1971 and fans are urged to support the team on the road.

Sweet Home American Legion Post No 571 invites members and the public to a membership drive on Saturday November 13 1971. Park opens at 1 PM with a Free Beer Bust from 5 to 6 PM and a Free barbecue supper at 7 PM for 1972 paid up members. Others pay 1.00 per plate.
Jim Ehler 90 former Shiner resident died October 30 1971 in St Josephs Hospital Houston at 90 years 10 months 5 days after two weeks in the hospital He was born December 25 1880 in Austria Germany and moved to Texas as a child He married Ella Spies in 1921 and lived in Charlottenburg before working for Borden Milk Co He is survived by his wife son Clarence Evelyn and grandson Darryl Ehler along with three sisters and many nieces and nephews Burial was in Shiner City Cemetery with pallbearers including nephews Eli Kremling Gus Ehler Joe Ehler Hilbert Pechacek Clarence Sines and Lawrence Lucas
A turkey and ham shoot will be held at Machart's Store in Charlottenburg on Sunday November 21 starting at 1:00 p.m. Participants should bring 12 16 and 20 gauge shotguns shells are furnished. The event is sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 232 Shiner and the public is invited.

Siegel aged 69 died Monday in Shiner Hospital at 5:00 p.m. His body lies in state at Buffington Funeral Home until Wednesday 8:30 a.m. Mass at Shiner Catholic Church follows at 9:30 a.m. Rosary prayed Tuesday night. Erwin F. Riske 75 1 7 died Tuesday November 9 1971 at 1050 am. Little John Kubicek son of Mr and Mrs Jim L Kubicek Jr of Moulton was unanimously elected mascot of Guadalupe Firemen's & Fire Marshals' Association at the 71st semi annual convention in Hallettsville on Sunday October 31 1971. Over 1000 members wives and families from 60 fire departments attended. The event included a memorial service a noon meal pumper races and a dance with the George Machart Orchestra.
Mrs. Rose Rohler of 315 McCauley San Antonio died Sunday November 7 1971 in a city hospital at age 52. Funeral 9 15 am from Brookehill Chapel and 9 30 am Wednesday November 10 at St Leo Church with burial Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. She was related to the Mikes family and to several Shiner residents. Complete details next week.
A kitchen shower for the Sisters of St Paul High School and St Ludmila Academy to be held Friday November 19 through Sunday November 21. Donations to be brought to the Sisters kitchen.

The 1971 Lavaca County deer season runs November 13, 1971 to January 2, 1972 with a two deer limit per hunter and no more than one buck. Spikes count as bucks. Quail season opens November 13 and runs to February 15. Dove season in the South Zone, including Lavaca County, opens September 25 and closes November 23 with a bag limit of 10 and possession limit of 20. Hunting is noon to sunset.

Lavaca County Grand Jury in Hallettsville on November 1 returns twelve indictments. Defendants named include Felix Perkins for burglary and theft, Benton Joe Thurmond and Edwin Mesek for theft and burglary by breaking, Willie Hill for theft, Andrew Ray Haywood for forgery and passing, George Baros for theft, and several individuals charged with assault with intent to murder. Jury list and court officials noted.

The St. Paul Cardinals host Sacred Heart of Hallettsville Thursday November 11 at 8 00 p m at Comanche Stadium. The event honors Dads with pre game ceremonies and sideline seating to support the Cardinals.
