The American Legion Junior Auxiliary sponsors a bake sale on Saturday November 26 starting at 9 30 a m at Pa tek's Market downtown. Readily available tasty items include pies cakes kolaches strudel homemade bread noodles and more from community volunteers.
Shiner Knights of Columbus will hold memorial services on Thursday, November 17 at 7 p.m. in the Parish Gym. All members are urged to attend.
Obituary for Edna Welhausen nee Holchak of Shiner Texas who died November 12 1966 at 77. Eight months. She lived in Shiner most of her life and was active in First Methodist Church Sun Day School and local organizations including the American Legion Auxiliary and the Mothers Club. Survivors include son Glade Welhausen wife Frances and granddaughter Gayle Minear. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church with burial in Shiner City Cemetery.

Dismissed patients include John Dusek, Mrs Hugo Helweg, B C Neumann, Peter Ermis, Melvin White, Juan Guitierrez, Boston Milton Sr, Mrs Henry Pesek and baby, Mrs Anton Stary, Mrs Adolph Heidrich, Mrs Adolph Lichey, Edwin Zimmermann, Miss Norma Nellkamper, Joe Heathcock, Mrs Julius Vrana.
The Moulton American Legion Post hosts a Thanksgiving picnic on Thursday November 24 at the Legion Hall in Moulton. A turkey dinner with trim mings will be served at 11:00 a.m. George Machart Orch of Hallettsville provides music from 10:00 a.m. The grounds feature daylong entertainment for all ages and Friendly Trail Riders invite riders to joined a ride to the Legion Hall.

Members urged to attend elections and join efforts for convention information.
All business houses in Shiner will close for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday November 24. The Post Office will also be closed and there will be no delivery service. All Shiner schools will dismiss Wednesday afternoon and resume Monday morning November 28. Readers are urged to submit copy early for next week's paper.

In 1957 citizens formed the United Fund of Shiner Texas to streamline fundraising for social agencies. The plan calls for a single annual campaign to support health welfare and character building groups, reducing overlap and confusion among multiple drives. A meeting of team captains is set for Monday November 28 at 7 30 p m at the Shiner Clinic with Otto Kosler as team captain and a long list of workers named.
A white double faced sign 4 by 10 feet was installed west of Shiner north of Farm Road 533 and Highway 90A. The illuminated sign features a red arrow pointing to the substation just north of the junction as part of GVEC’s effort to mark cooperative substations. Hallettsville and Moulton GVEC substations already have similar signs.
The Frank M. Wagner Memorial Hospital opens a new wing with operating, delivery, and emergency rooms in use. The building fund shows contracts at 71,184.80 and available funds 60,748.60, leaving a shortfall of 10,436.20. Equipment needed totals 20,436.20 including a modern operating table an electric power generator and an incinerator.
The Lavaca County Grand Jury for the November 1966 term returns six felonies and no misdemeanors. Indicted are Frank Bartel for forgery and passing, O E Spicer for theft, Robert and Margaret Meeks for theft, James Earl Demp for auto theft, and Donald Curtis for theft by bailee.
Hunters from Lavaca County area list opening day deer kills for November 12 and 16. Edward Rebecek of Beeville scored two bucks on Holson Ranch in Gonzales County. several other locals and out-of-county residents reported 6 to 8 point bucks across Colorado, Gonzales, Llano and Kerr counties with multiple days and ranches named.
In October 1966 the Texas Highway Patrol investigated 84 rural traffic accidents across Calhoun DeWitt Jackson Lavaca and Victoria Counties. The incidents injured 35 people and claimed one life. In Lavaca County 20 accidents left six injured and no fatalities.
Henry Howell, a former small town newspaper editor with radio experience, joins KTSA. He will host the 7:00 to 7:15 a.m. News and the Markets and Weather at 12:00 Noon to 12:15 p.m. The San Antonio radio move follows 21 years at a prior San Antonio station and a long newspaper career including the San Marcos Record and San Marcos Daily News.
Shiner parish SS Cyril and Methodius will hold a hunter's Mass from Sunday November 20 through Sunday December 25 at 4 30 a m each day continuing at the church in Shiner Texas with services led by the parish priest and guest clergymen.
The Shiner Dance Club Board set a new dues deadline for January 31. Dues are payable from December 1 to January 31 to stabilize income for bond estimates. Unpaid dues after January 31 will cause automatic vacancies for couples on the waiting list.
The Shiner Trail Riders organization sponsors a western music dance at Wied Hall on Saturday November 19. George Humplik and the Lone Star Rhythm Aces of Schulenburg will provide the music.
Eddie Watzlavick 63 years 11 months 23 days father of George Watzlavick of Shiner died at home in Schulenburg on Monday November 14 1966 at 1130 am. Funeral services set for Thursday November 17 at 915 am from Schwenke Baumgarten Funeral Home Schulenburg to St Rose of Lima Catholic Church for Requiem Mass at 930 am. Rosary was recited at 730 pm Wednesday November 16. Interment in Catholic Cemetery Schulenburg.
Funeral services for Sigmund E. Polasek 49 of Houston were held Tuesday November 15 1966 at Buffington Funeral Home Shiner and St. Shiner Catholic Church. Burial followed at Shiner Catholic Cemetery. He is survived by wife mother Rudy Janca of Shiner a son Sigmund Jr. of Houston two daughters Mrs Fred Buish of California and Mrs Dolly Manier of Cuero a brother John of Rosenberg three sisters Mrs William Carleton of Sugar Land Mrs Joe Heiman and Mrs August Siegel of Shiner and two grandchildren.
Rural mail carriers from the Shiner Post Office will distribute livestock survey cards along their routes starting November 20. The cards help set the yearly inventory of livestock and poultry in Texas. Carriers include Gilbert Kasper Route 1 Edgar Kram Route 2 and Thomas Hughs Route 3.
The Westhoff American Legion sponsors a dance at the American Legion Hall from 5 to 9 p.m. The Markmann Polkateers of San Antonio will provide music. Admission is 1.00 for gentlemen and 0.50 for ladies with refreshments available.
