Thanksgiving Holiday Noted for Shiner on November 30

The city will observe Thanksgiving by closing all business houses on Thursday November 30. St Ludmila Academy will also close. Shiner High School will observe November 23 and 24 for the State Teachers annual meeting and the Thanksgiving day, and will make up the November 30 holiday at a future date to preserve attendance records.

Plates Taken At Fall Festival Request Return

A number of plates were removed along with pies and cakes at the fall festival. A request is made for the items to be returned to the school or brought to the country store at City Hall on Saturday.

Mrs Kremling Dies Suddenly in Shiner Texas

The obituary notes the death of Martha Rosalie Kremling at age 67 in Shiner Texas after a short illness. Funeral services were held at the Shiner Catholic Church with burial in the Shiner Cemetery. Survivors include husband Edmund and ten children, along with siblings and many grandchildren.

Jos Mikulik Funeral Rites Today at 9 O Clock

The community mourns Jos Mikulik aged 71 a pioneer citizen who died suddenly Tuesday night at home. Funeral services are set for Thursday morning at 9 from Roeder Funeral Home with survivors wife and two sons J L Mikulik of San Antonio and Edwin Mikulik of Beaumont.

Local families welcome newborns with births across Texas towns

A series of baby arrivals announced in the community includes Jerry and Joyce Mikes welcoming a daughter on November 14 at a local hospital weighing 7 pounds 2 ounces. The Michnas’ first grandchild joins grandmothers Marie Mikes and L. W. Kelly among others.

Local Justice Court Shows Busy Weekend Docket

Twenty one criminal cases filed in Justice Court over the weekend. County Sheriff Theo Long led with fifteen gambling cases. Elroy Mauldin of Gonzales filed five Beer Law violations. Highway Patrol officer Welbert Horstmann had one case for failure to yield right of way. Fines totaled 371 dollars.

Fire Company Answers Call On Armistice Day

On Armistice Day at 8:00 a.m. the Shiner Volunteer Fire Company rushed to Sexton Marburger’s home near Cemetery where a flue caused dry shingles to ignite. Firefighters arrived quickly and saved the house with estimated loss not exceeding 28 dollars.

Mrs Edwin Jaehne Remembered as Devoted Wife and Mother

Funeral and obituary notice for Mrs. Edwin F. Jaehne who died at age 37 years 5 months and 22 days after a ten week illness. Born Otilia Mary Zahn in Floresville she married Edwin in 1935, lived in Shiner and leaves husband three children and several siblings. Funeral services were held in Shiner Catholic Church with burial in Shiner Catholic Cemetery.

State Luther League Welcomed By Shiner Hosts

The Shiner Luther Leagues hosted the Fall Rally of the State Luther League from November 11 to 12. Registrations reached 170 from cities across Texas including Austin Seguin Victoria and Houston. Activities featured a Stacker Stadium game, hay ride, barbecued dinner, student entertainment, devotions and a closing lunch at the Shiner High School Gymnasium.

Respected Citizen John Havel Sr Dies at 89

John Havel Sr aged 89 years 4 months 29 days died at his son John S. Havel home on Thursday November 9 after several weeks illness. Born in Czechoslovakia June 10 1861 he farmed in Schulenburg and nearby areas later living in Shiner and Gonzales. He is survived by his wife Theresa two sons Joe and John S. Havel a daughter Anna Sigut 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren plus a sister. Funeral services were at Roeder Funeral Home and Shiner Catholic Church with burial in Shiner Catholic Cemetery.

Woman Indicted for Murder in Shiner Case

Cora Lee Kuykendall of Shiner indicted for murder by the Hallettsville Grand Jury. She shot West Gladney in Shiner on June 3. Trial set in District Court in Hallettsville November 20. Indictment was among eight returned.
