Lesson in Kindness From a Stranger on a July Day

The narrator recalls a blistering July walk to a city carnival in Yoakum and a ride from a stranger who gave him two dimes and five nickels. The man urged him to pass kindness along, a lesson that stayed with him as a lifelong truism about acts of kindness being loans to be shared with others.

Shiner Room Feature at Wolters Memorial Museum

Museums tell brave stories of founders and progress in Shiner. The Shiner Room in Edwin Wolters Memorial Museum at 306 South Ave honors Henry B and Edwin Wolters. The exhibit opens Sunday November 13 from 2 to 5 p.m. with arrowhead displays early buildings and business, and notes on current industries. Public is cordially invited.

Lutheran Church Services Held For Mrs Noack

Funeral services for Mrs. Peter Noack of Shiner were held at 2 p.m. Thursday November 3 1966 at the United Dr. Martin Luther Church. Burial followed in Shiner City Cemetery. Mrs. Noack nee Marie Anton ia Neumann born June 18 1880 in Wandsburg West Prussia came to America as a young woman and later married Peter Paul Noack in Galveston on February 20 1902. She died November 1 1966 at age 86 with four sons and four daughters surviving.

Impressive Rites Held For Clyde Paul DeDear in Yoakum

Clyde Paul DeDear of 802 Cadwell Yoakum died from a heart attack on October 29 1966 in Freeport Hospital. Funeral services were held October 31 at Buffington Funeral Home and St Josephs Catholic Church with a Requiem Mass. Interment followed in St Josephs Cemetery. He was born January 13 1923 in Hochheim and married Mildred Weber February 10 1940. Survivors include wife son Clyde Paul Jr two daughters Sally Ann and Pauline and several relatives.

The Shi ner High School Student Council sponsors a homecoming dance in the school gym after the football game on Friday night. All students and alumni are invited. Admission is 25 cents for single attendees and 35 cents for couples. Drinks will be available.

Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative has placed modern appliances in Shiner and St Paul High School Homemaking Departments to aid instruction. Houston Flyer Bombs Destroy Red Ammunition 25 Miles West of Thanh Hoa

Lt. jg. Dale M. Content of Houston credited Wednesday of last week with destroying a camouflaged ammunition dump 25 miles west of Thanh Hoa in North Viet Nam. He reported spotting the dump while over cargo barges in an A 4 Skyhawk and placing bombs to start a large fireball. Content served with Attack Squadron 172 aboard the Franklin D. Roosevelt. Mrs. Content and their son are living with her parents in Houston.

Shiner adopts its tenth United Fund Drive for Tuesday November 29 with a goal of 2850 dollars. Lead organizers are Billy Pakek Dr A A Darilek Jr and Don Kaspar. Donations are allocated to Boys Scouts of America Red Cross Salvation Army Texas Rehabilitation Center Hear Inc and a small expense. U S Senator John Tower secured a narrow victory for another term, edging Democrat Waggoner Carr in a tightly fought contest reported from Shiner. Carr pushed a late challenge, but Tower held a slim lead as results finalized.

District Court opens with grand jury in Hallettsville

The fall term of District Court began in Hallettsville with District Judge Paul Boethel empaneling the grand jury to study offenses from the past six months. Patek Sr. Recovers After Knee Surgery in Santa Rosa Hospital

Victor Patek Sr. is progressing well after knee surgery at Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio performed last Friday. He previously shattered his kneecap in a two year old bread truck fall and required a second operation. Family reports he is expected home this weekend with Mrs. Patek accompanying him.

Volleyball Tournament Slated November 13 At Parish Gym

St Paul High School sponsors its annual volleyball tournament on Sunday November 13 at the Catholic Parish gym. Games run from 11:00 a.m. to about 6:00 p.m. Admission costs 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for students.
