The narrator recalls a blistering July walk to a city carnival in Yoakum and a ride from a stranger who gave him two dimes and five nickels. The man urged him to pass kindness along, a lesson that stayed with him as a lifelong truism about acts of kindness being loans to be shared with others.
Museums tell brave stories of founders and progress in Shiner. The Shiner Room in Edwin Wolters Memorial Museum at 306 South Ave honors Henry B and Edwin Wolters. The exhibit opens Sunday November 13 from 2 to 5 p.m. with arrowhead displays early buildings and business, and notes on current industries. Public is cordially invited.
Funeral services for Mrs. Peter Noack of Shiner were held at 2 p.m. Thursday November 3 1966 at the United Dr. Martin Luther Church. Burial followed in Shiner City Cemetery. Mrs. Noack nee Marie Anton ia Neumann born June 18 1880 in Wandsburg West Prussia came to America as a young woman and later married Peter Paul Noack in Galveston on February 20 1902. She died November 1 1966 at age 86 with four sons and four daughters surviving.
A turkey and hams shoot will be staged at Pavliska Grocery Store in the Wied Community on Sunday November 13 starting at 1 00 p m Shells will be furnished and shotguns are requested attendees welcome 590430080
Williford Drug highlighted its first anniversary with prize drawings awarding a $25 gift certificate to Mrs Julius Chumchal a 5000 Ace Stamps set to Eric Blohm a steam iron to Mrs Freddie Chumchal an electric can opener to Mrs Calvin Tucker and a camera to Gus Pfeil.
Clyde Paul DeDear of 802 Cadwell Yoakum died from a heart attack on October 29 1966 in Freeport Hospital. Funeral services were held October 31 at Buffington Funeral Home and St Josephs Catholic Church with a Requiem Mass. Interment followed in St Josephs Cemetery. He was born January 13 1923 in Hochheim and married Mildred Weber February 10 1940. Survivors include wife son Clyde Paul Jr two daughters Sally Ann and Pauline and several relatives.
The Annual Homecoming Bonfire will be held Thursday at 6 00 p m on the grounds of Shiner High School as part of Homecoming weekend. Friday night features a game against the Flatonia Bulldogs and community contributions are sought via LY 4 3628 or LY 4 7081.
The Shi ner High School Student Council sponsors a homecoming dance in the school gym after the football game on Friday night. All students and alumni are invited. Admission is 25 cents for single attendees and 35 cents for couples. Drinks will be available.
Funeral services for Antonio Mendez of Shiner were held Sunday November 6 1966 at 12 15 p m in Shiner and the Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church Requiem Mass followed Interment was in Guadalupe Cemetery near Hochheim Texas Pallbearers named from Shiner were Raulo Rivera Sotero Amador Juan Galvan Santiago Galindo Flavio Buento and Henry Juarez He died suddenly at home November 4 1966 at age 64 born August 6 1902 in Cheapside DeWitt County Son of Pancho and Lupe Sauseda He married Lillie Carrington February 18 1932 and was a farmer Surviving are his wife two sons Librado and Ben Mendez five daughters Mollie Machacek Mary Galindo Lala Rodriguez Esther Martinez Trinidad Rocha Jr 13 grandchildren and 7 brothers and 7 sisters
Shiner Public School PTO and VFW Auxiliary plan November 10 meetings at 7 30 p.m. District officials Larry Hamilton and Pat Jurek will visit. social to follow. KJT and KJZT District Meeting set for November 13 in Hallettsville with 1 00 p.m. registration and 1 30 p.m. sessions. BUNJES Club meets November 15 at 2 p.m. Wied KJZT holds regular meeting November 11. note district meeting shifts.
Mrs Alvina Hartel Pesek 63 died November 2 1966 in Shiner Texas after 26 days in Frank Wagner Memorial Hospital. Funeral from Buffington Shiner with Requiem Mass at Saints Cyril and Methodius Church burial in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Survived by husband James Pesek daughter Georgia Ann Tenberg three grandchildren and several Hartel siblings.
The ladies will join the members of the St Martin's KJT Society for lunch and refreshments.
Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative has placed modern appliances in Shiner and St Paul High School Homemaking Departments to aid instruction. Refrigerators washers and dryers were supplied at no charge and will be replaced every two years with replacements offered to GVEC members faculty and parents.
Shiner will observe Veterans Day Friday November 11 with business closures. The city post office and rural route deliveries will halt, and the First National Bank will close for the holiday. residents are urged to shop on Thursday for groceries.
Lt. jg. Dale M. Content of Houston credited Wednesday of last week with destroying a camouflaged ammunition dump 25 miles west of Thanh Hoa in North Viet Nam. He reported spotting the dump while over cargo barges in an A 4 Skyhawk and placing bombs to start a large fireball. Content served with Attack Squadron 172 aboard the Franklin D. Roosevelt. Mrs. Content and their son are living with her parents in Houston.

Dismissed patients include Mrs. Carrie Chumchal, Lee Sedlmeyer, Otto Sander, Mrs. Herbert Pavlicek, Miss Shirley Fischbeck, Mrs. Vernon Harris and baby, Henry Joe Wagner, Fritz Albrecht.
The Freshman Class of SHS hosts a bake sale Saturday November 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in front of the bank. Items include cakes pies cookies strudels noodles bread and kolaches. For orders contact Iris Schmidt or Bernice Seidenberger.
Shiner adopts its tenth United Fund Drive for Tuesday November 29 with a goal of 2850 dollars. Lead organizers are Billy Pakek Dr A A Darilek Jr and Don Kaspar. Donations are allocated to Boys Scouts of America Red Cross Salvation Army Texas Rehabilitation Center Hear Inc and a small expense. Community volunteers will contact households and a church collection on Sunday December 4 invites rural contributors. Team Captains meet November 28 at the Shiner Clinic.
U S Senator John Tower secured a narrow victory for another term, edging Democrat Waggoner Carr in a tightly fought contest reported from Shiner. Carr pushed a late challenge, but Tower held a slim lead as results finalized.
A fire Tuesday October 25 destroyed the 9 room Novak residence one mile south of Danbury. Mrs Adolph E Novak widow five months, not at home. Loss to furnishings pegged at 35000 with interior renovations in progress. Fire crews from nearby towns assisted.
The fall term of District Court began in Hallettsville with District Judge Paul Boethel empaneling the grand jury to study offenses from the past six months. Members include Brosch Ebner Ma yo Speaks Zatopek Kalmus Muehlstein Mitchell Borchers Appelt Gertner. Appelt chosen foreman. Bill Kortwig is court bailiff and Albert McElroy door bailiff.
The public is invited to an open house for the new intermediate wing of Shiner Public Schools after the PTO business session on Thursday evening at 7 30. The building houses grades 4 through 6, the homemaking department, the library, and offices. Refreshments and progress snapshots will be displayed.
Victor Patek Sr. is progressing well after knee surgery at Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio performed last Friday. He previously shattered his kneecap in a two year old bread truck fall and required a second operation. Family reports he is expected home this weekend with Mrs. Patek accompanying him.
St Paul High School sponsors its annual volleyball tournament on Sunday November 13 at the Catholic Parish gym. Games run from 11:00 a.m. to about 6:00 p.m. Admission costs 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for students. Teams from Bishop Forest Schulenburg Sacred Heart Hallettsville St Joseph Yoakum Nazareth Victoria and St Paul Shiner compete.
The Shiner Trail Riders sponsor a western music dance at Wied Hall on Saturday November 19. George Humplik and the Lone Star Rhythm Aces of Schulenburg perform. Tickets cost $1 for gents and 50 cents for ladies.
