Shiner Branch urges residents to help those in distress by knitting and sewing. A new box of warm clothes will be shipped soon and volunteers will call for donations. Cash gifts can be left at the First National Bank as the campaign continues to require support.
All young men that can pass the qualifications have a chance to enter the Air Service. You must be single and between 18 and 35. Vacancies exist in Puerto Rico. For information write or visit Cpl. Johnnie E. Davis at the Yoakum Post Office in Texas.
A Farmers League Branch meeting is set for Thursday November 14 at Dickson School. All members are urged to attend and to bring neighbors and friends. Bill Marcak is the contact.

On Sunday November 17 the K J Z T Society No 5 will dedicate its newly built chapel on church grounds after the 9 30 service a procession to the chapel and blessing will occur. Benediction Te Deum will end the service. At 5 p m the annual Thanksgiving turkey supper in Blucher Park is sponsored by the society admission 30c for adults 15c for children Pateks Orchestra will provide music and all are invited.
The Shiner Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee announces that the first shipment of onion seed has arrived. Orders must be placed at once to secure seed for planting time. Contact the committee today to arrange for onion seed.
Reverend G Kuratko pastor of the Sweet Home Catholic Parish was honored at a birthday celebration Sunday night at Wagon Wheel Tavern on his 50th birthday. A barbecue supper was served as Mons Netardus delivered an address of congratulations. Father Bily attended and Patek s Band played. The Gazete extends best wishes for many happy returns.
Shiner Cemetery Association seeks support as funds run low and workload rises. The group launches a Dollar Campaign inviting donors with loved ones buried in the City of the Dead to contribute for future lot cleaning and upkeep.
The United Dr Martin Luther Church announces a full week of services and activities led by Rev. Richard Schuetze. English services at 10 30 a m with Dreyer, youth and junior programs, and a German Missionfeast on Sunday the 17th. A special missionary offering is requested.
Christian Science Services announce the Lesson-Sermon titled Adam and Fallen Man to be read in all Churches of Christ Scientist on Sunday at 11 a.m. The Golden Text from Psalms 28:1 and 9 reads Unto thee will I cry O Lord my rock Save thy people and bless thine inheritance feed them also and lift them up for ever.
Henry C. Nickel presides over Emmanuel Lutheran Church with English services on the second Sunday of each month at 3 PM and German services on the fourth Sunday at 3 PM Visitors are welcome for both.
Over 60 guests gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Schneider to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on Saturday November 2 1940. A white cake adorned with silver sat center table. Lunch was served around 10 o clock with cakes pies cookies sandwiches coffee and punch. The young folks danced while older guests played dominoes. Music by Ed Berger on accordion. Mrs John Dibala died at Dufner’s Hospital at 2 30 am from uremic poisoning. She was a 26 year old Hallettsville born organist for the Senior Choir and active in Catholic and fraternal groups. Survived by husband, parents, four sisters, two brothers. Funeral in Hallettsville with Solemn Requiem High Mass and burial at Catholic Cemetery.

A turkey shoot is planned at Green School on Sunday November 10 starting at 1:00 p m. The event invites participants to test accuracy and compete for prizes. Proceeds support school activities and programs.

Cuero boosters visited Shiner to promote the Cuero Turkey Trot, running November 9 to 11. Armistice Day parade on November 11 at 11 a.m. features 10,000 turkeys grooming the two mile float line. Harry Putman, publicity chair, says the parade should be the best yet with a full three day carnival. Herman Ochs of San Antonio headlines the Sunday program at Municipal Park at 2 p.m.

Mrs Sophie Mraz died Saturday at 5 p m in Jefferson Davis hospital Houston. Funeral held Monday at 9 a m from her son's home Ed Mraz Shiner Catholic Church rites by Rev Ed Bily. Burial in Moulton Catholic Cemetery beside late husband Rev J Kopp officiated. Survivors: Ed Mraz and John Mraz sons Lillain Betz and Bessie Mae Mraz daughters. four brothers Adolf John Louis Emil Knezek sisters Mrs Frank Marek and Mrs John Hartel. Fluently mourned, pallbearers listed.
Robert Mikus of Wharton and Stella Darilek of Moulton escaped serious harm five miles from San Antonio when a heavy lumber piece shattered the windshield of their car. The crash occurred as both cars, including one driven by Donna Ruffins of Seguin, collided after Ruffins pulled from a station. The lumber struck Darilek on the head but she was uninjured. The Mikus car swerved through a fence, through the fence again, and back onto the highway.
Friends here announce the marriage of Robt Mikus and Miss Stella Darilek. The ceremony was scheduled for last Monday. Miss Darilek has spent much time in Shiner on professional duty and has many friends here who extend best wishes.

Dr Ina Moodie Calhoun and Dr Leon Kopecky were united in a 7 15 am Tuesday ceremony at St Peter's Church. Rev Albert Henkes officiated as palms and white santhemums decked the chapel. The bride wore a white faille gown with a square neckline and long sleeves, a Victorian illusion headpiece, and carried her mother's handkerchief with a cameo. Attendant Wilma Kinnamon wore a French blue dress and Juliet cap. Best man was Dr C L Kopecky. A breakfast at the Kopecky home followed, then the couple departed for New Orleans and plan to live at 311 Howard Street San Antonio.
A lunch that you are sure to enjoy will be served at the Menger School Turkey Shoot on November 17. Proceeds support the school activities and community events.
A sequence of relocations occurs around the High School area as Supt J Mil Auld and family move into the Hollman brick cottage across from the High School. Wm Roth moves into the Aulds former residence. Louis Muenich exits to an apartment in the Pollak tent cottage, with Ed Mraz purchasing the Marburger home on Yoakum highway and Chas Patek succeeding him. John Werner and family settle in the Waldrep cottage formerly occupied by Aug Wenske.
