Prof Ponton introduced a donated upright piano to the school after a Mothers Club campaign by Mrs Joy Hughs. The $440 cash purchase completed the gift with subscriptions and on hand funds. Cora Wingren performed instrumental solos while Tillie Strauss and students presented selections across rooms led by Miss Ledbetter.

The Chaperone Play Delights Audience At Grandon Hall
The Chaperone captivated Friday night crowds with smart acting and solid professional effort by Miss Carlyn Trautwein and fellow pupils. Cast included Rosa Burkian, Maurine Gray, Leonida Schuhman and Mildred Pry among others. The event raised 41.70 gross with half donated to the new Methodist church. Transportation mishaps on the return trip left several excursionists wet and muddy after heavy rain.

The parish priest Rev JA J Mertes died in Fredericksburg Texas on Monday May 11 seeking health benefits. His body returned to Hallettsville where large crowds greeted the cortege. A Pontifical Requiem Mass was held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Catholic church followed by burial in the Catholic cemetery.

Hallettsvilles Commercial Club organized a county tour to promote Hallettsville and the volunteer firemen’s celebration on May 18. Sixteen automobiles carried about 75 local citizens and business leaders to Mont, Sweet Home, You Va, Shiner, Henkhaus, Moulton, Witting and Breslau for a barbecue and speeches.
